Reflection 3

     ~Talon's POV~
"We can't just leave it as it is Alpha, we understand your reluctance, however the best interest of the pack must always be placed first!"

I sighed in annoyance, I could be anywhere else in the world right now, doing anything else but instead I was stuck here, sitting at the head of a crazily long table in the conference room, which was currently filled up with all the high ranked wolves within the Crescent Moon Pack and from beyond our borders, Alpha's of all the packs allied with ours.

You might wonder what the occasion is, that demanded me to sit here listening to all this shit, well it was actually meant to be the usual annual briefing, or at least that's what I thought but somehow all discussions had gravitated to something along the lines of me needing a Luna urgently.

I really couldn't tell what was wrong with this people, I was doing quite well alone wasn't I? What else could they be looking for, we were financially abundant, our borders were well secured, our security system was impeccable, our warriors in top condition and everything else was relatively at it's best, we were not the No1 pack in the werewolf community for nothing, our influence extended way past the borders of the USA, and yet they wanted a Luna.

Now if they were rooting for me to find my mate, it would've been a different case, but they had long given up on that, now they'd have me pick just anyone, even daring to give me a time limit of before my 23rd birthday,

"There are many beautiful and outstanding female wolves who would all be honored to serve their Alpha, you just need to take your pick Alpha.", Elder Mathias continued,

'serve me ? was he proposing a Luna or a slave' I thought,

"Elder Mathias, it would be in your best interest to let our Alpha decide on this, everyone else has backed off at our Alpha's obvious reluctance, and yet you persist, what's got you in such a hurry?" my beta Caine asked icily,

"I'm not in a hurry, the best interest of the pack and our Alpha is all I have in mind and I seem to be the only one!" the old man snapped with much self righteousness, an argument ensued due to his words and I sighed in anger, my pack members didn't dare start an argument before me, it seemed I had become too lenient, a fist hitting the table was all it took for utter silence to over take the atmosphere.

They all looked up at me in shock which quickly turned to fear as they noticed my wolf's eyes and the deadly aura coming off us in waves,

"you all have become quite daring recently, having the luxury to sit here throwing words at each other, it seems you don't have enough to do." I growled out, they lowered their heads in shame, my eyes turned to Elder Mathias and I could see sweat forming on his brows at my intense glare.

"My best interest and that of the pack huh? let's all give Mathias a standing ovation." I said sarcastically, nobody moved, good for them.

"I'm appalled that you have so much free time to be concerned about me, I mean if I remember correctly, your last girl is about my age and much like me, still mateless." I said to him.

"I place your well being and that of the pack before my own family Alpha." he replied, covering his fear quite well but I could still pick out the slight stuttering, I smirked,

"your loyalty is much appreciated, however, I'm also aware of the fact that your precious daughter rejected her mate, something about him being beneath her status, forgetting how much such attitude is detested in our pack!" I said in a deadly tone, he looked up in shock and fear at my words and my smirk widened.

"what is it Mathias, you felt you had it under wraps didn't you, well you did quite a good job covering it up, unfortunately for you, I take it as a point of duty to be fully aware of everything going on within my pack, whether it be of common knowledge or secret dealings, her own mate is beneath her status, who would then be qualified as her match I wonder, the Alpha perhaps?" I said, putting on a puzzled look, his confidence seemed to be slowly fading as I could now see him visibly shaking

"hmmm, that would be a serious situation but I'd like to believe that isn't the case, I mean Mathias wouldn't give his precious daughter to me in service as he so kindly highlighted before now would he?" I asked rhetorically,

"No, he wouldn't, because he would be well aware that I could never care for someone who isn't my mate neither would I accept someone else's mate, rejection or not, so for our dear Elder Mathias's daughter that would be aiming too high wouldn't it be Mathias?" I asked again, this time expecting an answer.

"Yes, yes of course Alpha, my daughter would never dare entertain such thoughts." he stuttered out and I smiled

"It's good we see it from the same light then Elder." I replied before standing up and facing them all.

"The matter of the pack's Luna is to be decided solely by me, I will no longer condone any mention of it, my personal matters are just that... 'personal', in simple terms, none of your business, so I'd advice we all focus on matters that actually concern us, seeing as we've strayed from the actual reasons for our gathering, I will take my leave now." I announced in a dark tone, they all stood lowering their heads as I angrily walked out the conference room, slamming the door shut behind me.

Taking the elevator to the top floor, I headed straight for my room, unbuttoning my shirt on the way.
I stepped inside the comfort of my room and threw my shirt on the bed, taking deep breaths to calm my anger, I ran a hand through my hair turning to face the mirror,

"Hypocrite!" my wolf growled through our mind link, and I groaned.

"what's that supposed to mean Ray?" I asked in annoyance,

"You know damn well what I'm talking about!" he replied and I sighed

"when I said her behavior was frowned upon, I meant looking down on her mate, not the rejection itself." I explained,

"same thing, rejection is rejection, reasons don't matter!" My wolf said icily.

"That's not fair Raine, you know damn well I never considered him unworthy, if anything he was too worthy, but that had nothing to do with the rejection, and reasons sure as hell matter, it was either him or the pack!" I replied,

"remind me exactly who asked us to choose?.... who?.... that's right Talon, no one!" my wolf growled and then blocked me out of his mind, I sighed, glancing at my reflection in the mirror, I sighed again turning away, I got a sweat shirt from my closet and headed out the door.
