the list.

Hey, just a short one before Christmas. I might have one more story published before then, but I'll work on that later. I don't know why Pam didn't just do this in the first place since it would help her realise what an arsehole Roy was, but, you know. She wasn't always the smartest, Pam Beesly.

'Make a list,' she thought to herself randomly, one night whilst home-alone and contemplating her existence and philosophy. 'List good things about Jim and Roy and bad things about them both and put them against each other and see what's what.'

On any other night, Pam would have laughed at the idea, drunk some more wine from her bottle and passed out on top of her vibrator at 3 AM whilst waiting for her fiancee to come home. But for some reason, tonight felt...different. She couldn't put her finger on it, though it was definitely there.

Pam had to admit, this wasn't her idea of a good Friday night- she'd usually be drawing or reading or talking to Jim over the phone. Yet tonight, she wanted to branch out a little and be creative (though the sense of the word was admittedly charred in this manner).

She tore a sheet out from her old sketchbook and grabbed a red pencil with a funny slogan on it and a chewed-up rubber perched on the end. It was a few years old, now, but had served Pam well when it came to wanting to do random sporadic sketches. She scribbled 'Roy' near the corner of the page (the page itself already had a couple of non-developed sketches scattered on it) and underlined it, deciding to start with her fiancee first of all.

Roy:
Good Things:
*

Pam stared at her page for a few seconds, willing herself to write something, anything. She frowned, moving her pencil away. She would start with Jim, instead. Yes- that's right. Do the weakest first (or so she thought).

Jim:
Good Things:

She quickly found herself writing for him.

Jim:
Good Things:
*Nice
*Funny
*Charismatic
*Good with kids
*Gentle
*Great listener
*Smart
*Handsome
*Sweet
*A Cutie

Pam had to stop herself before she could write more. She stared at the page, a blank expression. Hmm. That was quite a lot more than she had anticipated she could write about her co-worker. She dropped the pencil and frowned. Maybe these things she had written weren't true anyway. Pam picked her pencil up again and started writing for a new column.

Bad Things:
*Large ego sometimes
*Funny nose?

No matter how hard she thought, Pam couldn't think of anything else after this. 'Funny nose?' was scraped together towards the end of her thought process. She decided to get started on Roy now.

Roy:
Good Things:
*Sometimes does the dishes

Bad Things:
*Rude
*Annoying
*Leaves Me Alone At Crucial Points
*Angry All The Time
*Crude
*Inconsiderate
*Gross
*Sort Of Stupid
*Insulting
*Giant Ego
*What Even Is Helping Me Around The House?

Pam stopped and stared at this list, mentally comparing the two. Slowly, she got to her feet, clutching the list to her chest. She grabbed her phone off the sideboard and dialed Jim's number with shaking fingers.

"Um, hey, Jim? Can I come over? I...I sort of have something to ask you."
