Akin to dragons are their cousins, wyverns. Wyverns are typically smaller and with only two legs. They mature around 30-50 feet tall, 35-55 feet in length. Their wings are about twice their size to handle their size and weight. Wyverns are usually a bit more snake-like than dragons, who appear more as giant winged lizards.

Wyverns have no fire breathing capabilities, though some have been found to breathe a sort of airborne poison when threatened. Their tails are also barbed at the ends, not very large, but sharp and long enough to seriously damage its prey upon impact. Before modern-day, it was known that wyverns were kept as pets and weaponized during coven wars.

Unlike dragons, there is no way to communicate with wyverns, even through Dragon Lords. All communicative ability resides strictly between dragons and wyverns, as observed in sanctuaries. Wyverns are less valuable than dragons and thus populate the earth more heavily. Typically they reside in Norwegian countries, however, they have emigrated across the globe, populating mountainsides or other places with high vantage points away from humanity.

Baby wyverns are also known as hatchlings, and take anywhere up to 10-20 months to hatch once laid. They are born in three colors, black, grey, and white. Despite only having three colors within their genes, the species has retained some of the dragon traits, often having a strange shimmer to them that comes in many colors, including the reds, greens, and blues found in most dragons. Along those same lines, it takes wyverns around the same amount of time to learn to fly and reach maturity.

Their lifespans are around 785 years, usually dying to extreme exposure to the elements. While their scales are stronger than any armor, they wear down much faster than those of dragons. Wyverns are also known to die of what is essentially a broken heart, should someone close to them, or other wyverns from their "colony", die. However, keeping wyverns as a pet is illegal due to their ability to be weaponized.

Fae and Nymphs are known to take care of the wyverns in times of sickness, as well as a few rogue witches, referred to as Hedge Witches. This is extremely dangerous, but a well-known tradition, which has probably thus earned trust between the two species. It is highly recommended to NOT interact with wyverns unless trained and/or in a safe location. They are wildly unpredictable.
