Have you ever been tired, mentally and emotionally? Just too exhausted to deal with people or life, sleep and caffeine if you get them aren't helping, you're cranky and frustrated and just overwhelmed and you have no idea why?

It gets that way sometimes. Recall a time when you ate an unhealthy meal, and then another...and the next thing you know you know your body feels awful, and you're tired and a quick fix of sugar doesn't help because you've been eating nothing but junk food, & you're probably dehydrated. Too tired to cook good food, you say you will tomorrow. Today you eat pizza or fast food again because it's easy and you're tired. Then tomorrow you are too busy and can't cook... a vicious cycle.

Remember your mom saying to eat your vegetables first? To save dessert for last? Your body needs healthy food. Junk food is great tasting but not great for you. And while it's ok to have, we need to fill up on real food/healthy food first or we won't have any energy and it just spirals out of control into exhaustion and feeling grouchy.

It's the SAME thing spiritually and emotionally! Imagine waking up and you get on Facebook or Twitter or Instagram and etc social media before you get out of bed, and your timelines are filled with negativity. Election negativity, arguing about a new law, some good people killed in a terrorist attack, the list goes on. That's gonna make you feel terrible and start your day with negativity in your heart whether you realize it or not. This is your spiritual junk food. Then it's time to start your day and your heart hasn't been fed well and will run out of gas soon, irritability and fatigue are 1st signs of hunger.

Once your heart burns through the junk food you'll be hungry for something else. You will look for anything quick to fill you up whether it's good for you or not. Just like we grab snacks when we are hungry. If we aren't careful, consuming too much of the world is going to end up leaving us feeling terrible and too tired to deal with dissecting Gods word (like earlier, being too tired to cook healthy meals).

Let's change that. Let's make the first thing we consume spiritually every day Gods word. Let's be intentional with our spiritual and emotional diet. Because when you're full up of healthy food you don't have too much room for desserts that can be bad for you.

Here are some verses that encourage us to fill up on Gods word, verses that show how Gods word is the most fulfilling thing:

Matthew 4:4
But he answered, "It is written, "'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
(we NEED spiritual food)

Job 23:12
I have not departed from the commandment of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my portion of food
(More than food y'all. Wow)

John 6:35
Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.
(Here's your fruits and veggies, your healthy spiritual food)

Ephesians 6:11
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.
(You need energy to fight your battles!)

Joshua 1:8
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success
(This shows how the Word needs to be eaten daily, but also how it can benefit us)

Psalm 119:9
How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word.

Matthew 16:6
Jesus said to them, "Watch and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees
(Meaning just a little leaven goes throughout the WHOLE loaf, so be careful what you put in your heart because it will affect everything from attitude to energy.)

Jeremiah 20:9
But if I say, "I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name," his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.
(Look how POWERFUL Gods word can be, pouring out affecting the rest of our lives.)

I encourage you, if you have a computer or phone to see this on, download or look up a bible app. Do the proverbs challenge or literally any bible study, you can read anytime or anywhere. No matter your schedule or shift, you can find even five minutes to read. I like YouVersion because it can read the verses out loud to you while you get ready!! No excuses there. Start your day right being filled with Gods word.
