Sorry for the hiatus, I took a full load of (challenging!) summer classes, but I got straight A's and survived to get into fall semester and clinicals! Praise the Lord! How is y'all's summer going?
Here's a short one to get back into the swing of things!
***You only let certain people into your work shop, kitchen, home, or whatever you consider a personal or sacred space. &You only let certain people instruct you, because they have earned the right to speak into your life.
You aren't going to let some random stranger on the subway or at a grocery store tell you how to live your life, & you're certainly not going to let random strangers into your home unattended with all your valuables until you fully trust them.
But how do we decide who we let into these places? How do we decide when someone is worth listening to 100%, without hesitation or reservation? What are the criteria? Usually, it is someone who has been with us through thick and thin. Someone who has unselfishly supported us at our worst times, someone who always pushes us to get better. Someone who has lived through all the things that we are currently going through, and they want to help us successfully navigate troubled waters. Someone who is wise and always makes the most rational, levelheaded and beneficial decisions. Someone who is always honest, whether we want to hear it or not, and has our best interests at heart.
I'm probably describing all of our mentors, grandparents, elders. When a person achieves this status in our life, often times if they say jump we just jump. If they say do something, we go do it and ask why later. We know they only have our best interests at heart. We can't fathom them saying something that could hurt us.
But occasionally we let people into our lives that we think are going to be a wise influencer but in reality they are a wolf in sheep's clothing or they don't have the amount of wisdom we think they have. And they can influence us to make bad choices.
We need to be cautious about who we let speak into our lives and who we let instruct us, who we trust. Do they speak from a Christ centered heart? Are they speaking only to benefit and guide you? & regarding the decision we need help making, did we ask God first?
Ask yourself, what would Jesus do? Would Jesus advise you to do what this person is saying?Psalm 1:1-6
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous...Proverbs 27:17
"As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend."Our heart is our most sacred space. We need to let God be in all our sacred spaces, especially our heart. We need to let God be the greatest influencer, and let Godly people surround us with their influence
Proverbs 4:23
Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.My prayer today is that we recognize those people who are in our lives to help us grow closer to God and make Christ centered decisions.
I pray that we recognize those who distract us from Gods words, those who do not direct us down the right path.
I pray we are able to take unhelpful and unwise people out of our sacred spaces.
I pray we are able to invite in those with wise counsel and gentle, patient hearts.
And lastly I pray that we become those who may give wise counsel. Let us not speak irrationally and out of a place of irresponsible emotions. Let us direct those around us to react with love and gentleness, and patience. Let us stamp down anger and invoke joy and forgiveness.
Amen.***
I just saw that I have 1000 reads on my other book, honestly I'm so shocked! I only put these up here thinking each chapter might get two or three reads ever. All I can do is pray that it's helping people.
