Sam cocked his head towards the flesh eater pond and burst into a low growl, all the hairs on his back rose, giving him an intense hair duo.
"Sam, shhhhh!" I told the wolf, pointing my finger at him. Sam continued, showing off his white teeth. I began walking slowly towards the pond, as if in a trance and Sam couldn't help but followed me.
"Sam sit! Stay!" I commanded in a loud whisper and Sam ignored me. He only cocked his head, giving him a gruesomely sad look.
"Dang it! You never do listen to me boy. You're just too stubborn!" I yelled in a whisper.
We drew closer to the pond, there was silence. No nightly bugs, no owls, no fireflies, no frogs. Just silence, other than my name being called.
"Nicholas," it kept getting louder and the tone deeper.
Sam drew his ears back even further, snarled, and then, offered a growl to scare off any night intruder, showing off even more of his teeth. I gripped the hilt of my sword, something was coming. The moon light reflected on the pond and the water was completely still. Something was completely off in this scenario. A mystical light spooled at the bottom of the pond, glowing, forming a bright green circle to appear at the top.
I slowly walked toward the pond, bending over the green radiant light. Extending my arm to the light, I touched the water. The water rose all around me! Spraying outwards! I stepped backwards, startled, drawing my sword from my pants. The water spewed and formed.... a man? Covered in Algae? No! It was a monster forming from the waters! The monster stood; it was almost completely made of water. Its eyes were the blackest of blacks, grey hair sunk in his head for effect. It had an older human face, yet gills were embedded in its body. Part.... fish?
"Why have you come here? What do you want?!" I ordered; I was truly going mad. They were going to have to lock me up and throw away the key at this point.
The monster slowly opened its mouth only to have water drain from it. After the water had drained, it began to speak, its voice was very masculine, "Nicholas, I'm here to take you. The time has come."
"What on earth are you talking about?! I won't go anywhere with you," I whispered angrily and confused.
It went on, "the devil made a deal with Lindsey Hennessy one hundred years ago. You are one of the strongest souls in the Hennessy family line, and you've reached your peak of strength. I'm one of the devil's four advocates. I will transport your soul to the underworld."
"I won't go with you," I repeated, gripping my sword more sternly, making my knuckles turn white.
The monster slung its head back to laugh. I raised my sword and with one swift movement, I sliced the monster straight through the middle of its body. Water drained and poured; it began to sputter and spew to the ground.
"Ah you've defeated me!" the monster yelled.
Well that was a lot easier than I thought it would be.
Its body began to disassemble piece by piece. Then, it froze and reversed even more quickly. I just stared in disbelief with my mouth opened.
"Haha, just kidding," the monster chuckled.
Horrified, I plunged my sword into the monster again and again. The monster reached out and grabbed my wrist; its hand was like a grip of steel, yet slimy, very slimy. The monster dragged me to the bottom of the pond, gripping my wrists like iron cuffs, holding me to my ultimate doom! The water engulfed me. The back of my tunic dug into the dirt at the bottom of the pond, my sword dropped from my hand, slowly drifting to the bottom of the pond.
I struggled to break free, but it was useless. I began to gasp deep breaths, only to receive water. The monster pressed its lips against mine, cold clammy lips, and it began to suck what little air was left. Water filled my lungs, and I began to choke until I had nothing left. I felt the calmest I ever had at this point. Sam barked angrily in the distance.
My soul beamed white from my body, the monster took it, sucking it in through its mouth. The waters remained a lit from this devastating scene. Sam, continuously barking and growling, leaped at the monster, attacking and biting this intruder.
The monster, angrier and more irritated now, grabbed Sam, and gave him the same kiss of death, taking his life force. Leaving our bodies motionless, he adjusted his head.
"Daddy! No!" Emily yelled; fear stuck in her throat.
The monster turned, staring at her for the longest moment in her life. It then smiled and dissolved back into water. The waters splashed, and then settled. Emily ran into the pond, seizing onto her father.
"Daddy no no no..." She said, sobbing.
Lily and Thomas appeared, startled by the noise.
"What on earth!?" Lily screamed.
She ran, grabbed onto Emily, bringing her out of the water. Flesh eaters were bound to her legs.
"Thomas, help your sister get these flesh eaters off," Lily said, Thomas stood there, in complete shock. "Thomas! Help your sister! Now!"
Thomas snapped out of his trance and ran to help Emily with the dangerous fish. Lily ran back to the pond, grabbing our floating, lifeless bodies and dragging them to land. She held my body in her lap and cried into the nook of my shoulder.
Thomas squeezed the jaws of the flesh eaters and pried them from his sister as she shrieked, squirmed and yelled in pain.
"Why!?" Lily yelled. "We were a good family! Why did you take him from us!?" She yelled into the night as she shook me and punched my chest trying to revive me somehow.
"It was the family curse," Emily whispered, glancing back at her mother, tears filled her eyes.
Thomas and Emily wept with each other, scared out of their minds and not sure of what to do, while Lily wept and screamed in the hollow of my shoulder.
