That is weird..... Some of the guards were already on the floor, soaking in their blood. Dad must have been through here, but if so then why were there more guards, why did he not take them all out? Panic tore through Thomas. Did they kill him? Dread rose through the pit of his stomach. He had just gotten here; no one is allowed to take him away from me yet!

He would get to the bottom of it! He thought as he walked swiftly to the first guard and their swords met. Anger ignited him, running through his veins as more guards came to seek the noise and trapped him in a circle. "AHHHHH!" Thomas screamed in rage as he raised his sword and spun in a complete circle, taking out one guard that circled him, the rest jumped back.

Was that four men? Or Five, Pain tore through him as he realized he had been brazed on his arm with another man's sword. Focus Thomas, focus. This was regular training for him; he should be able to take these men out easily.

"It is a key!" Emily exclaimed, obviously excited to see the shape of the skeleton key in her hand. Who would have thought a sword and cross necklace that formed into a skeleton key! She put the sword through at the end; there was a hole for it, letting it fit perfectly for leverage for when she did open the door.

"A key?" Randi asked, puzzled as she observed what Emily held in her hand. "Oh! A key!" She exclaimed in a near whisper, obviously now dizzy with hope.

"If Lord Gaube is correct, then I only have about an hour or two to live."

"Well, we now have a key!"

"Yes, yes, I already covered this Randi," she could not help but laugh, they were both delirious with fever, maybe this key was just an illusion. No, Emily would not let it be. She slowly crawled to the door and began to attempt to get the lock in the door. It took her several times, but finally with the loud click she knew the door would open.

"You stay here while I take out the guard," Emily said.

The room echoed in laughter, " You? Take out a guard Emily? In your state?"

"Yes, I can manage," Emily said, with a twisted smile. "I will need you so we can get the cures and save the others. I do not know how many prisoners he has. You did say you know where the cures are correct?"

"Yes. They are in the lab room; I saw them when one of the scientists was observing me in the observing room earlier today. Or was that yesterday? Can you believe that? They were observing my symptoms and it actually looked like they enjoyed it."

Emily felt so bad for Randi, being in this mess. She looked back to see her before she began to push the door, and grabbing onto the small knife that she had detached again from the necklace. Randi's finger nails and toe nails were now leaking blood as well, she looked like death. Her heart slumped. Fight for Randi! She had to save Randi, before her death, which was coming all too soon. She could feel it.

The door creaked as she pushed it open. She stood up and then fell into the hall way against one of the cold walls. She could hear others moan from their sickness in the other ten or twelve rooms in the hallway. Torches barely lit the hallway; it seemed cold here, too cold for any mortal.

A guard came running at the sight of her on the floor.

"What are you doing out of your room? I swear I locked that door," he said, as he bent down to pick Emily up. She was obviously delusional, and would not be able to talk to him coherently.

As he picked her up, she put her hand around him, then she cut his neck all the way across, making sure that it was deep enough. Blood began to spill down his neck. Dropping her, he grabbed onto his neck, trying to talk and scream, but only muffled chokes and blood came from his mouth. He fell into their room.

Randi gasped, and sat up straight, "Well I never would have thought. You Emily are a warrior, my knight and shining armor!"

"Alright Randi, we have to be strong. I need your help in unlocking these doors and freeing everybody. We must act fast!" She said, as she stood and lowered herself on top of the guard she grabbed his keys and sword. "Here this should work, I will use mine," Emily said, handing her the key.

She began to walk slowly to the door. She embraced the ledge so she would not fall over. Randi slowly got up and followed her, both girls were mad with dizziness, but they both knew they had to go on, or this would be the end. They each took a side and began to unlock the doors. It was so hard just to get the key into the lock!

People she did not even recognize looked up at her in fear and confusion. One man laid on the floor, dead. The other two looked at her dazed still.

"I am here to help, we must escape and find the cures for everyone," Emily stated, and hearing Randi repeat her words as some women screamed. Probably at the sight of her, she did look a little like a monster at the moment.

"Well I am all for that," one man said, as he draped his arm around the other man to hold him up. They then walked to the next cell, repeating it until all the prisoners that were still alive were with them. There were about fourteen men, ten women, and five children. Children! How could anyone be this evil?

They followed Randi and Emily into the observing room, the other door was locked, so Emily used her necklace to open it. Slowly opening, Randi walked through to the exact location of the cures.

All hope had drained from her voice, "The-the cures."

            "What about them Randi?"

"They are gone. There were so many here, all in vials."

"Well they have to be here somewhere," one man said.

"The room has been abandoned," another stated.

They tore the room apart looking for the cures. Yet, there was nothing.
