Nicholas had questioned most of the town, no one really knew what was going on with Lord Gaube and his evil plans. He was walking past the church he used to go to as a child. The huge  church bell he had made was cracked, and a chunk was missing from it. It really was too bad to see that, it had made the church so beautiful.

Maybe Lars would have an idea, he thought as he passed Edith's shop and the pub. Sam walked by his side, truly looking evil. I wonder how I must look to people, he laughed to himself.

A drunk stumbled out of the pub's door, trying to balance himself, but failing miserably.

He noticed Nicholas, "What are you looking at buddy?" he sneered.

"I have yet to figure it out," he replied. This man might know something. And he was drunk enough to spill the beans. Sam coughed up yet another fire ball as if it was nothing this time.

"You have got to quit doin' that buy, you are scaring people."

Nicholas walked up to him and pushed him to the wall with his sword to the man's throat.

"H-h-hey now, that is not very nice."

"I am no longer a nice guy," Nicholas replied, "Who are you?"

            "Lazarous."

"What is Lord Gaube up too?"

            "I do not know."

Nicholas pressed the sword deeper into the man's throat. His other arm held the man up by his chest.

"I think you do know something, spit it out."

"Okay okay, loosen your grip and I will tell you."

Nicholas loosened his grip and lowered the sword.

"Lord Gaube has been kidnapping a majority of the town's people. There is rumor it has something to do with an experiment. If I were to guess, it would be disease. He has several scientists that he has kidnapped from all over the world," Lazarous said, he was talking surprisingly well for being drunk and smelling of whiskey. "That is all I know."

Nicholas burned his gaze straight through Lazarous’s eyes. He believed the man. He let go of him completely, and the man slumped to the ground, completely unconscious now. Nicholas shook his head and moved on. Disease....

***********

Lars was walking into his office, he was expecting the men to start showing at any moment now. He opened his office door, startled to see a man sitting in his chair, with a black dog sitting next to him, gazing in wonder at Lars.

"Nicholas! I must me dreaming," Lars slapped his face as hard as he could, and left an imprintation of red fingers on his face. "Nope."

Nicholas laughed to himself. "You are starting to age old man."

"I know it; I want to get an apprentice in here so I can rest. It looks as if you have not aged a bit."

"Body and soul are two different things, trust me, I know from experience in the matter."

"Yeah? You do look like hell," Lars said, as he slumped in the opposite chair.  "What was being dead like?"

That seemed to be a very popular question. "Very hot," Nicholas joked.

"Oh so you were in hell?"

            "Yup."

"Is it really as bad as they say it is?"

"Worse. Words cannot explain it. I ran into a man in town, Lazarous. How good is his word?"

"How badly did you scare him?"

            "Enough."

"Then he would have told the truth."

"Then this is worse than I thought. Lord Gaube will be spreading disease to end the world. A world-wide epidemic."

Lars shook his head in disbelief. "I should have locked him up a long time ago."

"How were you to know how evil he would become?"

" I should have had an idea. I just did not think he would go this far. Why do you think he is ending the world?"

"I dunno. My guess would be so he could recreate it in his image. He is a sick, sick man. You of all people know this."

"Yes. It was so much easier though when you were alive. Wait are you alive? You sure look it."

"Yes, I was brought back to life, but my time is running out. I was sent here to take Lord Gaube out of the picture."

"I am gathering men to take out the guards blocking the city. We need all the help we can get."

"Good, I am going to go directly to Lord Gaube's castle here shortly."

            Lars nodded.
