One of the guards rapped on Lord Gaube's door.

"Come in!" Lord Gaube yelled, he seemed to be in a foul mood.

The guard opened the door and tossed Nicholas and Sam into the room.

"We found them walking through the hallways," the guard said.

"Well, well, well, if it is not Nicholas. I honestly would not have believed this if I did not see it firsthand. And it is Sam, aw ghost dog, here boy," Lord Gaube said.

Sam backed up, his hair rising as he unleashed a snarl, showing off his teeth.

Gaube threw his head back and managed a chuckle.

"You have my daughter, is that true?"

"Yes, that is true, and I have Thomas's wife too. Emily's time however is almost to an end. She has about a half hour to an hour left on this planet."

            "You are pure evil."

"Why thank you, normally I would take that as an insult, but today I feel that is a good thing. I like people to be afraid of me, I thrive off of it," he said, taking a drink from his desk and sipping on it before putting it back down.

He walked up to Nicholas and touched him on his shoulder, then he looked at his fingers, he still did not completely believe Nicholas was really here. Nicholas pulled his shoulder back and glared at Lord Gaube.

"Ah you still have fight in you I see, I have always wanted to duel with you, I was always intrigued with you Nicholas."

"I will duel with you Gaube, but in return I get Emily and Randi back."

"Oh, you can have them Nicholas, they are already diseased, and the cures are being taken to burn right now as we speak. I have found the sickness that will end everyone, but me and my men."

"And how exactly do you plan to do this? You cannot spread disease world-wide."

"Oh yes, I can. It has already started Nicholas, can you not see that? I infested the rats with the disease and released them on the pirate's and bargainer's ships. The disease is airborne, the rats will infect those people, and they will not know that they are infected until it is too late, they will spread the disease in town. Killing everybody. Bodies will drop from left to right. I had to sell my soul to the devil for this."

Nicholas looked at the man in complete horror and shock. If he sold his soul to the devil, then why did the devil want him stopped? Did he see any other way to stop the spread of this disease that would end the world? But once Nicholas actually thought about it, it was quite clever. The devil would meet his quota in souls, and then using the Henessy family to fight their rival to stop him from completely ruining the world so that the devil could take it over when he was powerful enough. Evil, sick twisted? Oh yes, just the devil's style.

As if reading his thoughts as to why, he answered him, "I want the world to myself Nicholas; to create the world off of my family is self gratifying. Can you even imagine that? The power that it beholds?"

"You are power hungry Gaube, this plan of yours will never work."

"Well, I never thought the dead would rise again either, but here you stand."

            Nicholas shivered at the thought.

"Let us fight in battle Nicholas."

"I would like nothing more Gaube."

The guards then led him to the dueling room. The hallways were always cold and clammy with few torches hardly lighting up the place. The dueling room was a huge stadium, torches stood in the ground lit, as if they were waiting for him. The ground was simply dirt, and the moon lit the grounds as well, acting as a second light. Rows and columns of chairs surrounded them. The guards pushed Nicholas into the stadium, standing around the door and holding onto Sam as he was faced with Lord Gaube.

Nicholas could just see Gaube's poor previous competitors not knowing that this would be the last place they would ever step foot in, and that they would never see their families again.

"Fifty seven," Gaube said, reading Nicholas's thoughts again. "I have had fifty seven battles in this room, and have won every one of them, thanks to your sword."

Nicholas grinned, "What I did not tell you is that the sword that I hold is the world's best sword. Not yours Gaube, I kept it and made you merely the second best."

Gaube grimaced, then glared at Nicholas as he paced.

This is what everything led up to, this battle. If Nicholas lost, then he would return to hell and the world would turn into disaster.

Lord Gaube stared at him, spitting on the ground before both men began to circle.
