Pain rested in Emily's eyes.
"I must go Emily. I love you, both you and your brother, you kids have taken my heart again," Nicholas whispered.
The crowd began to mumble erratically.
"Please everybody, I really appreciate this, but I cannot have you put your lives at stake as well," Nicholas called out.
Everyone looked at him, not sure of what to do.
"Are you sure that is what you want?" A woman asked.
"Yes, it is my fate."
The town’s people slowly got out of the devil's way.
"That is better, geez. Although, I would enjoy taking everybody. It would give me great satisfaction," the devil said, as he walked up with his cane.
"Father, no," Emily sobbed.
"You must stay strong Emily," he said.
Randi and another pulled her away from him, "Father!" she cried out.
The devil began to raise his hands with his cane in front of him.
"Great," Nicholas muttered.
"Wait!" A child exclaimed. "The contract changed colors! Look! Look! It was red; it is now golden as honey!"
"What does that mean?" Someone asked in the crowd.
Obviously relieved, Nicholas slunk back. He had been anticipating the soul sucking demon, after seeing it in action and taking Lord Gaube's soul. It was rather frightening!
"Shoot!" The devil said, now lowering his hands and sighing. "Fine, but you had better get your kids to save the boats before take-off." He had turned into a foul mood with the snap of fingers.
