Scott woke up with a start. He furrowed his brows when he noticed that he was not snuggled up to his boyfriends. He turned his head to the left and smiled when he saw that Mitch was tangled up in his blanket, fast asleep.
But there was no Avi. Scott grabbed his phone to look at the clock - it was 9.30. Only. Pretty early for New Years Day. Still, he was awake and didn't feel like staying in bed.
New Years Eve had been a rather quiet affair. They had organised themselves a private dinner and taken a long walk along the beach before celebrating at midnight with champagne and a wonderful fireworks.
Scott smiled fondly at the memory when he got up from the bed. He took a light bathrobe and headed outside, out of their bungalow directly at the sea on a small island belonging to the Bahamas. He stepped into the warm sand and looked around, smiling when he saw Avi sitting near the shore. His long, waivy hair was blowing in the warm morning breeze. He just looked gorgeous.
Scott approached him slowly. "Good morning, Avi..." he said softly, to not startle his boyfriend.
Avi looked up immediately. "Good morning, Scott. Why are you up already?"
Scott sat down next to his boyfriend. "I just woke up and had the choice between snuggling up with Mitchy and coming outside to find you..."
"You chose to come outside" Avi noted.
"Hmmhm... I did" Scott smiled slightly and looked out on the ocean. "Wanted to get some fresh day on this special morning..."
Avi smiled. "I smell New Year's resolutions."
Scott chuckled. "Yes and no" he replied. "I mean, in a way you're right, I want to do more for myself, more breaks, more selfcare. And I feel like some fresh air is a good start?"
Avi laid his head onto Scott's shoulder. "That's a good resolution" he pointed out.
"Mmhm..." Scott put his arm around his boyfriend. "Do you have any resolutions, Avi?"
"Well, there's not much, actually. I just want to continue being happy... I mean, I lost so much in the past year and yet gained even more. I am happy in my life right now and I don't want it to end" Avi said.
Scott squeezed his boyfriend closer. "That's beautiful." He pointed out. "And I am glad that you're happy. I am, too."
"Thank you" Avi mumbled. "I feel like you have changed my life so much, you and Mitchy. I am thankful to have you in my life."
Scott smiled. "Me too..." he said. "So thankful. And I am positive that it won't end."
"That's good to know..." Avi replied.
"Apart from some sort of consistency in your life... do you have any other resolutions?" Scott wanted to know.
"Not really. I feel like this is the first time, I don't want any major change in my life. Of course there are the usual things like eating healthier, taking more breaks, but that's it." Avi shook his head. "Still, a new year holds so many opportunities and I want to seize them" he added.
Scott smiled. "Seizing all opportunities, that's a good resolution. We should live by it."
"We will" Avi raised his head and kissed Scott's lips softly.
Scott kissed his boyfriend back, he deepened the kiss and held him close.
"So your New Years resolution is to kiss more?"
The two men parted when they heard the clear voice of their boyfriend.
Scott chuckled. "Actually it is to seize more opportunities, but maybe this was an opportunity?" He shrugged his shoulders.
"That's a concept" Mitch replied with a grin on his face. He sat down in the sand next to Scott and looked out onto the ocean.
"What are your resolutions, Mitchy?" Scott asked him.
"To slow down if needed, to take care of myself more and... I think seizing opportunities is a good one, too" Mitch explained. He sighed softly.
"And more vacations. Definitely more vacations" Avi remarked. "I love being here. It's a different kind of nature than my beloved forest and sequioias, but I love it."
"That's good to know" Mitch said. "Because I love going on vacation with you."
"Me too. And talking about opportunities..." Scott smirked at his boyfriends. "I think right now is the perfect opportunity for a dip in the sea!" He sprang up, discarded his bathrobe and ran right into the sea.
"He's such a manchild" Avi said to Mitch warmly.
"Mmhm..." Mitch returned. "But I love this about him!"
"Me too. And now come on. I'd love a dip in the sea before breakfast, too!" Avi got up as well and joined Scott in the water.
Mitch smiled fondly at the scene before him: his boyfriends had found one another and were splashing each other with the water.
The brunette took off his shirt, too and slowly waded into the refreshing water to his waiting boyfriends.
It was the perfect start to a hopefully perfect year.

A/N: HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
This is only a short bit and it's a little late, because I just needed some time 'off'. The time before Christmas and in between Christmas and New Years had just been so stressful that I hardly found time to complete my planned little mini-series about their first Christmas and New Years together.
Here we are, though, with a little blurb into their lives again. They'll be back (#soon). And it is going to be H.I.L.A.R.I.O.U.S. (and a little bit angsty). Stay tuned!
