Once Mitch opened the door to his hospital room, he saw that Avi was sitting on his bed and Shelley in the lounge chair by the window, reading a book. They both looked up when Mitch and Scott came into the room.
"Mitchy..." Avi said immediately and was then completely overwhelmed when his husband literally fell into his arms and started to sob. "What's wrong?" When Mitch didn't reply, he looked at Scott, alarmed.
"No diagnose" Scott said immediately. "Kidneys, bladder, everything is clear" he informed Avi and Shelley as he stepped up to his husbands. "Mitchy is just a little bit overwhelmed by everything right now" he said and hugged Mitch from behind, giving him the warmth he needed.
"So- sorry, Avi, I- I didn't want to sc-scare you" Mitch stuttered as he had calmed down a little bit.
"That's fine, Mitch" Avi said softly. He caressed Mitch's cheek and wiped away a few stray tears with his thumb. "You are bound to be emotional right now, Mitchy and we as your husbands are here to accept your emotions and to help you deal with them."
Mitch couldn't help but smile. "Thank you, you are wonderful."
"We're just doing what we're supposed to do" Scott agreed. "Now... do you want to sit down or lay down or anything?"
Mitch shrugged his shoulders. "I don't care. Hold me for a moment?"
"Whatever you need" Avi replied and did exactly that. He held Mitch tight to his chest while Scott stayed behind him with his arms tight around his waist.
The blonde looked over at Shelley, who was still sitting in the chair. "Sorry" he mouthed over to her. But she just smiled and shook her head.
"Better?" Avi asked when Mitch stirred after a while.
Mitch nodded. "Yeah. Needed this calm moment." He looked up and saw Shelley. "Oh, hi... sorry."
Shelley got up. "Don't worry, Mitch" she said softly. "As you said, you needed this moment with your husbands. "but still, it's good news you got, isn't it?"
Mitch nodded. "It is. I was just a little overwhelmed. Let's just hope that the other results come soon..."
"Speak of the devil" Avi said lowly when he heard a knock on the door and Doctor Matthews entered the room together with a nurse.
"Mr Grassi" she said. "I come with news."
Mitch looked at her questioningly. "Yes?"
"Your scans came back negative" she said. "There is nothing abnormal in your brain or in your lungs."
"Good" Avi said softly while Mitch just nodded.
"What are the next steps?" Scott asked.
"We'll proceed as planned with the preparation for your colonoscopy" Doctor Matthews explained. "Nurse Pam has brought a solutions which will help clean out your bowels. It is required that you drink these two litres within the next hour. Tonight there will be another litre of the solution. And you should drink as much water as possible over the afternoon. The solutions will cause you to expel everything that is left in your bowel system."
"Are we talking massive diarrhoea?" Mitch wanted to know.
"Well... yes" the doctor said. "This is one way to put it."
"My Mum had a colonoscopy once and she literally took a book to the bathroom and just stayed there until it was over" Scott explained.
"I don't think you're helping, Scott" Avi pointed out.
