Charlie's POV
Six months later.....
I have been doing some research and some heavy thinking. I even had Sam help me make some of these decisions and it wasn't easy. So I picked out a hospital, I wanted to go to and I talked to the doctors. I had to fill out a lot of paperwork to see if I'm eligible to have the surgery. I'm 18 years old and I'm old enough to make my own decisions. I was asked a lot of questions like why I wanted to have the surgery and such. I'm still taking my testosterone shots. I went to the doctor for a check-up and met with the top plastic surgeons of the world. I had to take off all of my clothes and I had to put on a hospital gown. I sat on the hospital bed. The doctor opened my robe and used a marker on my breasts. He drew circles around the area he was going cut and he told me once he removed my breasts he'll make them look like pecs and to make sure they are shaped evenly. The surgery is scheduled for Nov. 5th and I'm pretty excited. The next day, I got some papers in the mail from the hospital. They were instructions on what to do when it's time for the procedure and when the procedure is over.
Sam's POV
I can't believe the time has come. Charlie is really excited about this surgery. I feel like I'm losing my best friend that I grew up with forever. I'm happy for Charlie, but life is gonna be so much different now. As I look at the old pictures of us as kids and they make me feel kinda sad. I miss those good old days. Charlie sat on the sofa next to me and she seemed kind of puzzled.
Me: What?!
Charlie: Why are you looking at those embarrassing pictures?
Me: (chuckles) I was feeling a little sad, okay?
Charlie: Why?
Me: Well, it's just that you're having this surgery and you gonna be a different person.
Charlie: Yeah, so?
Me: I feel like I'm losing my best friend forever.
Charlie: No, you won't. Just because I'm gonna be a man doesn't mean I'll be different. I'll still be that same person you grew up with and I'll always be your best friend.
Me: Life's gonna be a whole lot different.
Charlie: Yeah, but I'll always gonna be the same old Charlie but just different.
Me: You promise?
Charlie: Yeah, I promise.
Me: I love you, Charlie.
Charlie: Love you too, Sammie. Will you please put those pictures away?
Me: In a minute.
Charlie: Well, hurry up! It's your turn to cook dinner tonight.
Me: Cheeseburgers and fries?
Charlie: Nah!
Me: Fried Chicken?
Charlie: Uh-huh!
Me: Fried Shrimp?
Charlie: Yeah! And don't forget the fries!
Me: You ain't gonna order me around!
Charlie: I'm not! I swear! And a beer too!
I picked up a pillow and threw at Charlie and she laughed. I went on to the kitchen and cooked our dinner. Even though I love my crazy-ass best friend, she can get on my nerves sometimes. Charlie packed her bag for the surgery tomorrow and she was not allowed to eat after midnight or before the surgery. We ate our dinner and we talked about how Charlie felt about the surgery. She seemed really excited about it. Later that night, Charlie struggled to sleep because she was so excited that this day has come. I couldn't sleep either, but sooner or later we both drifted off to sleep.
