Y/n was hurrying down the corridors – school had started a week ago now, and she was just starting to get used to the new timetable: fifth year had turned out to be even harder than how older students had told her it was going to be; with very difficult lessons and constant homework overload.
Ancient Runes was probably the worst subject under that aspect, as she had found the schoolwork for it considerably heavier ("it feels like I'm living off of this" she'd confessed to Jisung a few nights before, while they were studying in the Gryffindor Common Room).
And, even worse, the Ancient Runes class was exacty where she was heading right now; her bag full of books and her heart of anxiety, as she was running late – who would've thought a chill heads up with Felix would cause her to almost get told off by the strict and borderline terrifying teacher!
Speeding up (and getting in the way of some other tardy students), she finally got to the classroom, just a few seconds before the teacher did.
Letting a loud sigh of relief, she was however not surprised at the fact that all the seats but the ones in front row were occupied – who would ever want to be sitting right before the teacher's eyes for two whole hours?
Just as she was finishing to unpack her Ancient Runes schoolbook alongside a few pieces of parchment, the door burst open once again and two more students entered the classroom, their arms clutched on their bellies as if they were trying to restrain themselves from laughing to hard.
Their identities, once the Gryffindor managed to match the faces with their names, were not a shocker: other than Hwang and Seo, who else would have had the nerve to come into Ancient Runes class not only being late, but laughing?
"Get a grip, you two!" scremed in fact the teacher, a mid-aged woman with thick squared glasses.
Still giggling, the friends at last managed to sit down in the only two places left – the ones beside Y/n.
The Gryffindor had never actually talked to the two, but as they had been taking Ancient Runes classes together since third year, she still knew who they were – and would've known either way thanks to hearsay (the school pranksters were not exactly the type to go unnoticed).
When the two finally settled into place, Y/n noticed that their vests were covered with a thin coat of white powder, and were even scratched in some points. She tilted her head left, just slightly, to have a better look: what had they been up to that early into the day, to be looking like that?
"Class, enough talking!" snapped the teacher suddenly, but managing however to obtain perfect silence at the first try. "I've corrected your latest homework, and I'd like to spare a few words about it".
The students looked at each other in confusion: that was very unusual of her, as she always claimed like correction was a work to be done alone (and that she did not have the time to do that during classes anyways) – and it furthermore seemed especially odd as the translation they had due for their last lesson was one of the easiest they'd done so far!
"Dare I say surprisingly", continued the teacher as if there hadn't been any reaction whatsoever to her worlds, "it's not about the actual translation – you did a great job, but it was also pretty easy, so don't get too excited.
"My main concern after analyzing your work was your ability to write, structure and refine a speech or an essay: an ability that, let's be clear, is almost unexistent" she immediately added, as if she did not want to give them false hope. "All the parchments were full of such dull, simple grammatic; no linkers, no adjectives, no nothing!" she yelled, holding her head with her hands dramatically – done or not on purpose, thought Y/n, the effect had been achieved.
