Jisung sat down beside Minho. It had been a hard task, as Y/n had been supporting him until then and had tried to keep him as far as possible from any danger – although it was pretty clear that now no danger was there to threaten anybody. The Gryffindor, in any case, had immediately understood that the conversation was going to be a both interesting and rather tough one, and wanted to act as a moral support to the Slytherin.

Flinching slightly when crossing his legs, he caused the elder to turn around: a look of apprehension immediately altered his handsome features. "What are you doing here?" he whispered, sounding almost resentful.

"Listening?" was Jisung's lazy reply. Then he waved his hands at the circle that in the meanwhile had formed: every person whom had participated to the quest to go find the two of them (plus the woman) was now sat, and all gazes fixated on the woman, as she was the one who was supposed to start talking.

Evidently guessing everybody's thoughts by their body-language, she cleared her throat: "So... I understand you have many questions roaming around inside your minds, as to why we're here" (and she pointed at the old man, still unconscious), "why we would have a Horned Serpent with us, and what were our – no, his intentions when we came.

"But to answer them all in a way that could make sense to you all, I ought to start from the very beginning: and that was at the beginning of my adulthood.

"I am a witch, and have studied at Hogwarts. A Gryffindor" she added. "After I was done with School, I managed to get a job in Edinburgh: it was very hard because of the many complications I had with my family – they were not happy with my choice, and kept saying that going get a job so far from home and in a Muggle area would be for them a shame so huge they did not think they would be able to handle it. I didn't listen to them though, and went my way. The shop was in Old Town, it was a Book Store and I worked as a cashier... oh, good times" a sigh. "Everything was going smoothly – as smoothly as it could go for me – until one day, trying to fix a plumb a costumer had broken by accident, I casted the wrong spell and the water, instead of returning neatly within the plumb, overflowed even more and went to damage the place's ceiling.

"Above it was a small studio, and a Muggle lived there. I was feeling very guilty because I knew that he was constantly struggling to get by, and I wasn't sure that he was going to be able to pay to fix it. So I went to visit him, explained him that it had been my fault and offering to pay. But he was a proud one" a sad smile formed on her lips, "and said he would never accept my offer, that he'd find a way out himself. But I wasn't that easily tameable either, so I kept insisting to the point where we would see and talk to each other even four to five times a day. In the end – as I am pretty sure you all have guessed – we ended up falling for each other, and decided to move out and live together.

"A few months later, we found out I was pregnant: I remember thinking that never, in life, someone should be allowed to feel that ecstatic" a tear was now rolling down her cheek. "I gave birth, and the child was so tiny and handsome – everything I had ever wanted. At that moment, we also decided that we were going to marry: we'd come to a point where, to think of one without the other, had become impossible.

"I was so happy: all my life, I had always felt like what I was doing, it was what my parents wanted me to do. To be able to finally make my decisions without having to be subdued to anybody, felt fantastic. I had the most amazing child, and the most wonderful boyfriend" her eyes, shyly, stopped at last, locked in Minho's. "He was..."

"My father" the Slytherin completed quickly.

Jisung turned around to see what his reaction had been: the boy didn't look surprised; he had probably seen that coming. But to be someone who had just been reunited to his mother, he was definitely too serious. The Gryffindor took his hand and started caressing it, both to support him and to try and get him to soften up.

"Don't look at me like that!" the woman's tone was also reproachful – but mostly a mixture of sorrow and guilt. "I know what you're thinking, but I couldn't! It was the only way to keep you safe!"

"Dad has never been the same since you left", he replied flatly. "Actually – I'm pretty sure I never got to know the real him, because I was still too young when he changed. You abandoned us, ran away without even informing him of your reasons, and you expect me to cheerfully welcome you? I'm sorry, but I don't really think I can do it" and with that said, he quickly got up and started to head towards the exit.

The woman was about to get up, but Jisung anticipated her – three large steps, and he was holding the other's wrist. "Please don't go" he whined.

Minho got rid of his hold, but stopped nevertheless. "She has nothing to say that interests me", he stated, without looking at the Gryffindor in the eyes.

"I think you should let her explain herself" he said boldly, but corrected his tone immediately after he noticed how his words had caused the ladder's body to tense up: "I'm not implying that she's right! But what she wants to tell you – it might be worth listening. If not, you can walk away when you want to – we can, because I won't leave you alone. But do listen to her – please" he concluded.

The Slytherin finally raised his eyes: he stared into Jisung's for a moment (as if to decide whether he had been honest or not), and then, unexpectedly, nodded.

He took the Gryffindor by the hand, walked back to their original positions and sat down, Jisung close by. He addressed at his newly found mum, and invited her to speak up –as if he were impatient to get that over with quickly.

The woman didn't have to be solicitated twice: "the reason why I abandoned you so suddenly" she took a deep breath, for she had said those words too quickly, "was because I had reasons to believe not only your safety, but your lives, to be in danger".
