New Mission

Chapter 12: True Story

"Jade? Are you okay?" She asked once she found her girlfriend. "No, Garnet, I'm not okay..." Jade responded while she wiped tears off her cheeks. "Topaz and Coral told me about what happened. I get why you're mad."
"They told you that they were spying on us?" Garnet nodded. "I'm mad at them, too. It was wrong for them to invade our privacy. I can't believe they would be so rude." Garnet sat down next to Jade and put her arm around her. "Something similar to this happened with me and Pearl, actually." Jade looked up at Garnet. "Really?" The fusion nodded. "When Peridot tried to use a communication hub to contact Homeworld and inadvertently caused some television interferences, Pearl and I fused into Sardonyx and destroyed it. The next day, it happened again. So we fused again. Amethyst and Steven decided to try and catch Peridot in the act, but they found out it was Pearl rebuilding the hub and not Peridot. A day later, we were about to fuse, when Steven told us that Pearl had lied. She lied, just to fuse with me. I felt betrayed. Pearl knows how important fusion is to me. I didn't talk to her for weeks after that. Greg took me and Steven on a trip, but while we were at the motel, I-" Garnet stopped. "You unfused, I'm guessing?"
"Mhmm. Ruby and Sapphire were fighting so much, that they couldn't stay together," Garnet said as she looked down at Ruby's gemstone on her left palm. "Ruby was furious, but Sapphire wanted to forgive Pearl. Later, Steven felt horrible because he couldn't get them to make up and thought it was his fault. Then, Sapphire realized what she and Ruby had been doing. She started crying because she didn't want Steven to feel so bad." Garnet continued her story.

At the temple, Emerald and Diamond were searching for the rebels they were assigned to apprehend. "If these defective little 'Crystal Gems' are so brave, why don't they come out and fight?" Diamond asked as she went through Steven's room. "I don't know. Maybe Rose Quartz is hiding them all in her bubble," Emerald suggested. She opened the door to the bathroom and moved the shower curtain aside. "I can't believe they would just abandon their mission."
"I can. They didn't seem like they would do too well, anyway," Diamond told her sister. "I could tell Jade would be a shitty leader. Sure, she's Yellow Diamond's oldest Jade, but she's still an idiot. Our Diamond should have assigned that mission to us, not them." Emerald nodded in agreement. "What kind of base is this? A monitor? A bed? They're supposed to be warriors! These things should be useless to them!" Diamond shouted.
    

On Centi's ship, Jade continued her conversation with Garnet. "So, you're saying we should forgive them?" Garnet nodded. "They simply wanted to help us admit our feelings for each other. I was just as angry as you-if not angrier-but I think we were overreacting." Jade and Garnet stood up, then left the room.

"Topaz, Coral," Garnet said and startled the Gems she was addressing. "Jade and I talked, and we forgive you."
"Really?" Jade nodded and frowned. "Yes. I'm sorry I got so mad at you guys. I was just embarrassed. Do you guys forgive me...?" Coral hugged her friend. "Of course we forgive you!" Coral grabbed Topaz's arm and pulled him into the hug. "Aw, how sweet!" Steven said. "I hate to interrupt this, but Diamond and Emerald are going to pretty much wreck the temple," Garnet said. "How do you know?" Coral asked. "Future vision, of course," Garnet replied with a smile. "We can't just stay here and let them destroy Steven's house!" Peridot exclaimed. Jade thought for a moment. "Wh-what if Garnet and I fused? Emerald and Diamond won't know who Iolite is or any of her weaknesses, so we could beat them!" She said to her fellow Crystal Gems. "Iolite? Is that the name of your fusion?" Lapis asked. Garnet and Jade nodded. "Yeah. Plus, if Garnet and I fuse, we'll have a better chance of winning. Since Turquoise is a fusion of just two Gems, but Iolite is three!" Garnet put her hand on Jade's shoulder and smiled. "I think it's a brilliant idea." Garnet and Jade ran out of the ship to the closest warp pad and warped back to the temple.
