Alex had to admit that she had actually enjoyed Christmas that year - a lot. Whether it was the friends that she had around her that day or the fact that what was left of her family was slowly coming back together. Either way, she had Barry to thank for all of it; he was the one that had completely changed her life.
Christmas night, when all had settled down in the streets of Central City and the heroes weren't needed any more, the whole team had gathered in the cozy apartment Alex and Barry called home. Iris had brought a small gift for the couple - two little ornaments that held the symbols that they used on their suits.
Alex thanked her and said that she really didn't need to get them anything but Iris glided by and happily added them to the tree. Jay and Caitlin had arrived together - though none of them were very shocked. It was obvious that the doctor had an interest in the ex-speedster. She welcomed them into her home.
Cisco was surprisingly the last to arrive but with a grin on his face all the same. As soon as everyone had been arrived, Alex brought out Grandma Esther's famous eggnog. Joe and Iris both questioned how she had known the recipe but answered it themselves by remembering what truth she withheld from them.
Caitlin was trying her best to hang up a piece of mistletoe that had fallen from earlier that day. She was just a little too short to be able to reach it. Jay had noticed and was quick to help her reach the ceiling. He asked if they had a tradition behind the small plant as well in which Caitlin answered with a kiss.
"Finally!" Cisco exclaimed. He had been waiting for them to finally admit that they had feelings for each other. It was more painful than waiting for Alex and Barry to become a couple. "This eggnog? Fantastic. Our little Scrooge has finally accepted the Christmas spirit, let's take a moment to appreciate this change of heart."
While the rest of the team had laughed at the joke, Alex stood there wringing her hands - she was nervous. Thankfully no one picked up on the gesture. As happy as she was that everyone was there and enjoying themselves, Alex knew that she had done something that was going to make or break the holiday season.
Whilst everyone was sitting around laughing, Alex had to take a moment to realize what the warm feeling in her heart was. It was pride for her friends - or family - for everything that they had accomplished over the last year. Central City had taken quite a few hits but in the end, they had had protected it to the best of their abilities.
Alex felt Barry's hand wrap around her waist and pull her close. Without noticing where she was standing, she followed his gaze up to the mistletoe that was just hung. "Merry Christmas, my love," Barry smiled down at her. Alex leaned up to kiss him to which the team was quick to embarrass them.
They pulled away blushing. "I never gave you your present yet," Barry remembered. He dragged her into their bedroom and placed a perfectly wrapped little box into her palm. "I know we said that we weren't going to do presents this year but I saw it and thought of you and I had to get it."
