as soon as we got back to my house i was attacked by ichigo, his lanky arms threw themselves around my drenched body. "where were you!! why didn't you take an umbrella!!" he sounded like he was on the verge of tears. "ichigo you'll get wet," i lightly pushed him off of me. i felt my heart shake, his eyes were puffy. "i knew something was wrong! why didn't you tell me airie! why did you run off and leave us!!" he shouted. "ichigo stop-" nishinoya spoke up but i stopped him by stepping forward. "i'm sorry ichi," i used kyo's nickname. "i didn't want to worry you or kyo, but that wasn't right." ichigo poutingly nodded at my words. "i won't keep anything else from you okay? and i won't ever leave you two," i wiped the stray tear off his cheek.
"remember, my two most important boys." i kissed his forehead and walked around him, nishinoya following behind me. "i-i'll go make hot chocolate." ichigo stuttered and moved to the kitchen, i smiled at his blushing face. with nishinoya still following behind me i made my way over to kyo's room. "good," i sighed seeing him happily asleep on his bed. i presses my body to the door frame, my arms crossing over and hugging myself. i had to bite my lower lip to stop it from shaking, but it was so hard to stop it. "hey," i felt nishinoya's warm hand grabbing my freezing fingers. "go take a shower and get changed," he offered me a small smile. i softly nodded my head, i grabbed some clothes and made my way to the bathroom. "you can grab whatever to change into," my voice traveled to the libero's ears making him nod back at me from his spot watching kyo.

i stood there and watched airie close the bathroom door. without waiting i walked into her room to grab baggy clothes to change into, since i'm dripping wet. i scanned her folded clothes for that maroon shirt i wore last time, but i couldn't find it so i settled for a black pull over and some baggy shorts she had tucked away. my brows raised slightly, she has a lot of baggy clothes that look like boys clothing. "why are you in airie's clothes? some kind of stalker now?" i jumped from the sudden words. "no!" i protested turning around and pointing a finger at the middle schooler. ichigo just glared at me, his eyes lowering to the shorts. "those are mine." he spat before smirking. i nodded my head having getting an explanation for the boyish clothes.
"you're really short huh, fitting into a middle schoolers clothes." he snickered. i felt my body shaking with anger, that little brat! i was ready to shout at him but he already walked away. an annoyed groan left my lips, instead of fighting with the younger boy i folded up my damp clothes and brought them out to the living room with me. my eyes glanced at the bathroom door, i noticed the steam escaping the bottom of the door. i hope she's feeling even a little better. "here." my body slightly jolted seeing a mug appear in front of my face, "thanks." i nodded taking the warm cup from. i saw as he moved over to the circle dining table and sat down, sipping softly on the drink.
"can i ask you something?" sitting on the chair opposite of him. his eyes shifted to me, "you just did." i deadpanned, is this kid serious. "what?" he retorted sharply. i shook away the annoyance he gave me, "how did you get to be so close to airie? i thought she was just giving you piano lessons." my lips curled over the cup and drank down some of the creamy hot chocolate. i saw ichigo shift in his seat, his hands tightening around his cup. "why do you care?" he said like he was trying to be mean but it came out more nervously. "because i want to know more about you," my tone was serious, and i was. ichigo clearly cared deeply for airie and i wanted to know why. i saw his eyes move to the window, his body looking more relaxed.
"it took her two days to notice how alone i was." he chuckled. "my parents are never home, they care too much about their precious law firm to even glance my way." he rolled his eyes, but it wasn't very hard to see the hurt lingering in his blue eyes. "but then airie came around and was so observant, it was like finding a steinway d-247," he sighed happily, but my mouth just gaped open, a what? "she took me in like i was her blood without question. so i promised myself to never let her get hurt ever. i'm going to protect her like we are blood, because i love airie." his eyes turned to me, determination narrowed into my eyes. "no one will ever hurt her or kyo because i'll be the one protecting them. they're my family." he said sternly. hmph, i felt a surge of adrenaline flow through me as i took a sip of my hot chocolate.
"i'm going to protect her too," i said simply, a smile present on my face. ichigo furrowed his brows and i could tell he was ready to pounce so i quickly stopped him by standing up. "that means i'll protect anyone she loves. including kyo, and you." ichigo's face softened with shock. i finished my hot chocolate and placed the cup into the sink. as i made my way into airie's room to set up her bed i saw ichigo smiling into the cup, progress! as soon as i got into her room i opened her curtains to let the very large window shine through with the rain and dim light. i fluffed her pillows and pulled her blankets back so she can slide right in and sleep soundlessly to the sound of rain. "nishinoya?" i turned around quickly hearing her soft voice. my chest tightened seeing she was wearing the maroon shirt.
"i-i," i coughed to make my nerves settle down, "i was just getting your room ready for you to sleep." i twitched out a smile. "thank you," she smiled softly as she got closer and sat on her bed. i stood in front of her and a pout pulled at my lips. her eyes were so puffy and droopy, crying so much made her tired. her eyes moved from the window to me and my face morphed into an embarrassed expression. god such an inappropriate time to gush over how adorable she looked in that baggy shirt and sad eyes. "i uh wore that shirt before!" i stammered out. my eyes went wide! god i'm such an idiot!! i mentally slapped myself, that's such an odd thing to say! "i know," she said softly, i looked back over at her to see she was looking out the window again.
"it smells like you, so i like to wear it to bed." i felt my heart skip a beat. did i hear her correctly? i probably looked like a fool just standing here with frozen shock and a blushing face. "s-sorry if that's weird.." i saw her cheeks turn pink but she never looked away from the rain. "n-no it's not!" i blurted and sat beside her. she turned to look at me, her eyes glazed over. "will you really keep us safe?" she whispered. yes!!!! my thoughts shouted in my head, but because i was so nervous by her adorable demeanor i could only nod my head. she replied to me with a small smile, "can you lay down with me..just until i fall asleep?" my insides did a whole circus performance from those whispered words. god please don't hear my heart breaking my ribs! "y-yeah." i whispered back.
we both laid down and faced each other, her eyes already starting to shut. with the bedroom door cracked shut, the only noise we could hear was the rain storm hitting the window. "nishinoya," she breathed out. "call me yuu.." i stopped her, feeling myself completely drown in the love i felt for her, feeling myself wallow in the trust and adoration i felt for her. i smiled when she gave me a small smile, "yuu, thank you," her half opened eyes twinkled. her hand slowly moved across the small gap between us and started to play with my flat blonde streak. my body shivered from her freezing hand as she started to rub her fingers through my hair, her eyes slowly shutting to a full close.
i had the goofiest, biggest, most noticeable love sick look written all over my face. "i love you airie," i whispered so softly that i barley heard myself. but i wasn't worried about her hearing me, she was already fast asleep. i grabbed her cold hands and held my own warm hands around them, bringing them to my lip to blow hot air on them. she made a soft noise of comfort at my actions before scooting over to me and burying her face into my chest. i didn't feel nervous, or scared, or even startled by her movements. instinctively i wrapped my arms around her figure and held her tight to my body, my chin resting on her head softly. the rain mixed with the soft breathing of airie started to lull me into sleep.
feeling more at home than i've ever felt.
