"everyone up!" coach ukai clapped his hands to wake up the few who were still sleeping. kyo was still asleep so i pulled him into my chest and stood to leave the bus. i felt weird, weird bad. i didn't want to wait for nishinoya to get up, his words and excitement over kiyoko still brought that sinking feeling in my stomach. i was being stupid but i needed fresh air to help clear my mind. "are you alright airie?" i turned over my shoulder to see sugawara looking up at me from his seat. "mm just need to stretch my legs." i smiled softly and continued off the bus. i saw yachi and kiyoko already pulling bags out, my stomach swirled when i let eyes with kiyoko. stop acting like this airie, it's ridiculous.
"good morning airie." kiyoko smiled at me. "ah is kyo still sleeping?" yachi skipped over to look at his face with a childish grin. "good morning kiyoko, yachi." i smiled back at them and walked closer. "do you want help?" i offered trying to pull out one of the bags, but yachi quickly pulled it out before me. "you actually have to go meet with one of the teachers here airie, we can bring your bags to our room." kiyoko offered kindly. my face softened, my feelings truly were being stupid. i probably was just overly tired and got confused on what he was saying. "oh okay if you're sure that's okay." i moved my head over making sure they were fine with that. "of course, go ahead. we'll meet back up later in the gym okay?" kiyoko and yachi sent new sweet smiles.
i couldn't help but genuinely smile. i'm never used to girls being nice to me, but i could feel the honest sweetness these two showed me. "alright then." i bowed very slightly so i wouldn't move kyo so much. with that i turned on my heel, my eyes scanning around everywhere but i couldn't find a teacher waiting anywhere for me. my sneaker squeaks echoes throughout the hall. i felt my shoulders slump, what if i went the wrong way and the teacher who was waiting for me wasn't by the music room and by the faculty room? i turned down a hall with my eyes stuck on the ground, still stuck in thought.
"well i guess the whispers were true, how are ya airie?" a familiar voice brought my head upwards. my stomach dropped and my pupils shrunk. "kuroo." i breathed out as the tall boy sauntered over to me. his smile taking over his face, "when i was told by coach to come drop the keys to the music off, honestly you came to mind small fry," he beamed dangling the keys in front of my face. i sighed hearing that old nickname. "but i never really thought you'd be here. you know," he leaned forward, a smug smirk on his lips, "after you left without even saying bye." he dropped the keys in my open palm. "kuroo i..i-" i tried to find the words but he cut me off by pulling me into a hug, squishing kyo in the process.
"ah don't sweat it small fry, we all knew how hard you were having it." his words comforted me, my head leaning into his chest. "but," my eyes shot open. "i'm not one who needs to hear that apology." his voice was low, my mind already knowing who he was talking about. kuroo pulled away and in one swift motion pulled kyo out of my hands. "ah kuroo he's still asleep!" i whined seeing how he was cuddling the three year old. kuroo shot me a glare, "i have every right to wake him up. you took him away from me." he hissed. "you act like you're his sibling," i sighed feeling a sweat drop appear on my forehead. kyo started to mumble himself awake, his little hands rubbing over his eyes. "is that my favorite little setter i see?" kuroo brought the sleepy eyed kyo closer to his face. "hmm?" i giggled seeing kyo tilt his head. kuroo pouted, "onii kuroo??" kyo's small voice questioned as he kept rubbing his eyes.
i started to unlock the music room door that was not so coincidentally right beside us, knowing that once kyo realizes who's in front of him- "ooh you betcha it's your onii kuroo!!" kuroo shouted tossing the giggling three year old into the air. "onee-chan!! look look!! onii kuroo!!" kyo beamed at me as he was being tossed. kuroo brought kyo close to his face and started to rub his cheeks into kyo's, "you see how excited he is airie! and you say always said yaku was his favor-" i felt my body drag into the room at the sound of his name, while a loud yelp was heard from kyo. "yaku!!!! yaku!! where!!!" he shouted wiggling in kuroo's arms. i heard kuroo grunt. he did that to himself, yaku knew kyo since a little after he was born, he was our neighbor and always found a way to make it over and help us out with anything. my eyes made contact with the familiar black piano in the familiar music room. it wasn't but over a month ago i was still running here to hide away from the world.
"are you going to come to the gym? ya know to watch the first practice match?" kuroo placed kyo down by some unassembled drums. "mhm, i'll be there, just want to reacquainted." i nodded softly seeing the same scratches on the fallboard. "alright, see ya in there small fry." with that kuroo left me and kyo. as soon as i sat down i heard kyo's little feet run and slightly trip over to me. i watched as he pulled himself up next to me on the stool. "wake up with me?" his eyes sparkled. i ruffles his hair and chuckled, "just a little bit, help me out?" i offered as i lifted the fallboard. kyo nodded his head super concentrated, his finger trying to find the c sharp note. "this one," i helped him with a small smile. i nodded my head as we counted together and then my fingers started to dance on the keys, playing the familiar tune.
we played together for a few minutes before locking up the room. me and kyo swung our hands back and forth as we walked through the nekoma halls, i figured we'd be staying in the guest building behind the school. i wonder if any other schools came for this training camp. i gripped kyo's hand a little tighter hearing the sound of squeaking shoes and volleyballs being hit. should i go in? my nerves stopped my legs from moving, kyo being flung back abruptly. "onee-chan?" kyo stared up at me. i looked deep into his brown eyes, a sigh leaving my lips. i can't hide forever, i'm sure kuroo already informed him i was here so what's the point? "let's go yeah?" kyo nodded happily at my words and we both made our way into the gym. my eyes widened for a second seeing so many males in one room. if my memory serves me correct, i think i see fukurodani, shinzen, and ubugawa. "hey airie!! where were you!" i jumped a little when i heard nishinoya shouting.
i felt different sets of cat like eyes on my back. "i was checking out the music room," i spoke back quietly. "oh, okay?" my eyes were glued to the floor, and i could see nishinoya leaning forward trying to catch me gaze. "airie are you alright?" he questioned a little softer. "yeah, we'll be up in the stands." i shot up straight, my eyes meeting with his, "do your best noya!" i pumped my fist with a bright smile. i watched his eyes light up, his mouth opening for a wide grin, and a slight blush creeping onto his cheeks. "keep your eyes on me! i'll be the one saving everyone's asses!" he jumped into the air. "don't say it like that noya," ahasi groaned behind him.
kyo and i ran up to the stands and took two seats closest to the railing. "thank you for the game!" was heard throughout the gym. nekoma be karasuno, and my eyes were focused on a certain libero.
♫
after the game was over, they played well over four or five sets. i could see the sky had darkened a good amount as the teams started to clean up and leave the gym. "kyo don't run off!" i yelped our seeing my brother jump from his seat and run down the stairs. i ran after him, my hair falling out of head band and around my face. once i got down to the gym i could see kyo with his arms stretched out, i didn't have to guess who he was running too. i saw the white and red uniform bend down and scoop the little boy into his arms. i was about to head over to the two when a bright ball of energy leaped in front of me.
"how was it?" nishinoya beamed. i felt a weird flutter from how close he was, "you guys did amazing, even though you didn't take any sets." i smiled sweetly at him. "yeah but it was thrilling! there libero was really good though," his words faded, his eyes glancing behind me. "yeah," i sucked in air softly, i ignored the pair of eyes on my back and recalled a certain moment of the match. "oh but that one receive you did with your shoulder, are you alright?" i tapped my chin softly. i took a glance at nishinoya to see his whole face changed, he had black waves of sharp energy seeping off of him. "nishinoya?" i whispered not sure what he was staring at. just then tanaka jumped over and pulled out his tough guy face. "oi! what's your deal? why're you staring so much at airie!" my body froze from him words, i turned my head slightly over my shoulder to see yaku.
we matched gazes and that was a signal for him to walk over, the two still mumbling words under their sharp glares.
"airie, hey."
