Chapter 14: Gender Reveal

Jordan's POV:
Five Months Later*

I looked at Angel as she helped Kiana with her worksheet. It irritated Kiana that Angel didn't have to do anymore schoolwork for the rest of the year because she was chosen to go on the Luxury Experience. I looked at Kiana's grades and I could see why she wasn't chosen. Kiana's has C's and D's plus she had over twenty absences.

My Dad doesn't want that look on his Luxury Experience. I felt eyes on me. I looked behind me to see Angel's Mom staring at me. She agreed to let me come over to see Angel but only if she was around to watch us. She was super serious about Angel. I didn't understand it. Angel was more responsible than Kiana. Kiana is the one she needs to watch.

"There. Your done and I can go see my friends." Angel said, as she stood up and grabbed her jacket. I stood up. "Five feet Jordan." Lexi said. I backed up from Angel. "Mama really? Why don't you do this with Kiana?" Angel asked. Lexi glared at her. Angel sighed. "Aight we out." She said. "Uh uh. Y'all not going out by y'all selves." Lexi said.

"Ma you got work in ten." Angel said, smirking. "I can call in sick." She said. "But you have that Dawson case." Angel said, fake pouting. Lexi glared at her before looking at me. "You really don't want me nowhere near Angel." I said. "Cause I don't want my baby to get pregnant. I'm too young to be a grandma." She said. Then you might want to keep an eye on Kiana.

"Mama come on. We haven't even done anything. Jordan's respectful of me." Angel said. "Exactly. I was raised to respect women. If a woman says no, then I leave her alone." I said. "Okay so I say no. You cannot date my daughter." Lexi said. I stared at her. "Mama!!" Angel cried. I sighed. "Mama you let Kiana Faye Ramon for a year and now she's dating another dude." Angel cried.

I looked at her. "But as soon as I say I got a boyfriend, you suddenly have something against boyfriends." Angel said. "I been had something against. It's just you I'm more worried about." Lexi said. I looked around for Kiana but saw the room was empty. She's lucky Kiana didn't hear that.

"Mama come on. We're supposed to be  going to Jordan's house." Angel said. "For what?" Lexi asked. "His Mom's gender reveal party." Angel said. Lexi looked at me. "We were supposed to be there an hour ago." I said. Lexi sighed. "Fine. Bring me something back." She said, before she ran upstairs. Angel rolled her eyes and grabbed my hand.

We walked out the door and down the street. While still holding Angel's hand, I wrapped my arm around her. "Your Mom is really against me." I said. "It's actually something else." She said. "What is it?" I asked. "It's because your white." She said. I looked at her. "What?" I said. "Yeah. She's has a problem against us dating white boys. Any other race and she's okay with it." She said.

"What?" I said again. "Us dating white boys is a different story." She said. "Why?" I asked. "My Mama once dated a white man. They dated for a year before he dumped her. Turns out the man was married and was using my Mama to keep himself distracted from his wife who was pregnant at the time. He wasn't ready for a kid so he stepped out on his wife and found my Mom." She said.

I thought about this then remembered what my Dad once told my Mom a few months ago. "I think I know who the man could be." I said. "Who?" She asked, as she looked up at me. "Well, few months ago, I overheard my Dad tell my Mom that when they were getting married, he find out she was pregnant with me." I said.

She didn't say anything. "I remember my Dad saying that he wasn't ready for a kid." I continued. Angel stopped dead in her tracks. I looked at her. She had a stone cold expression. Then she tore her hand away from mine. Then she walked ahead of me. "I know you ain't mad." I said, as I ran after her. She shook her head. "I'm not. I just had a bad thought." She said.
