THOUGH CALM AND collected through the hard exterior he showed everyone, Blaze couldn't deny how chaotic his insides felt as he took another look at the small woman across from his leather seat in the car. She was small enough to curl between the two doors on either side of her without a problem, but look much too developed to be a teenager.
The bastard never told me he had a kid, he thought to himself, scolding his disorganized plan from two hours ago when he first took the woman.
When Blaze woke up in the morning, he came up with a plan that was originally supposed to be simple: his group would break the door down, Blaze would talk to Delilah about where her coward ex-husband was, kill her once she gave him the information, and leave. The plan was never to be told that she needed time to find him and, in return for more time, he was given her daughter. And the plan was definitely not to agree. Come to think of it, there weren't any of his original intentions in what he did when he grabbed the girl and practically dragged her out of her home.
But he was never going to allow any of his men to see the storm of anger and dissatisfaction brewing within him. Not once did Blaze let his guard down—it was his job not to. Blaze was a man of control and he would be damned if he ruined what perfection his business had because he slipped once. It was too much of a risk to be anything but controlled, organized, and collected. It was one of the only things he thrived to keep in his life and there was never a time where he let his guard down and gave his control to someone else.
He intended to keep both his life and business that way and the one bad moment he had gone through earlier was the unluckiness of it all. Blaze was never going to allow another day to occur the way it had again.
"How much longer, Sebastian?" He asked his chauffeur, watching as Sebastian's eyes shifted from the road to the mirror for half a second.
"About twenty minutes," he spoke, turning onto a hidden dirt road. Large farms with animal grazing their fields soon turned into thick forests, pale colours morphing into shades of emerald leaves, and golden rays of light flickering through the branches of the dense tree branches. "Maybe a few minutes less."
Blaze nodded and turned his attention from the window, giving the woman a once-over. Compared to his darker, tanned flesh, she was quite pale. It did nothing to hide the rosiness of her cheeks, the blackness of her thick eyelashes, and the freckles that were splattered across her nose and cheeks. Then, he moved his gaze to her full, pink lips as she took small even breaths. He could remember the flush of her face when they first made eye contact, how wide her lively violet eyes grew to be as she took him in. Through the fear, Blaze could still make out the innocent curiosity the girl had after seeing him.
She was attractive, he wouldn't lie to himself about something so meaningless and obvious. There was something about the innocence in her features that made him the slightest bit curious about her, as well—it wouldn't stop Blaze from putting a bullet between her eyes if it ever came to it, though. He needed information on that bastard and Delilah was given more than enough time to find him. Why it was still taking more was a mystery to him.
Blaze was a busy man. Apart from his business of blood money, drugs and guns, he had a son to take care of. It didn't seem like the most ideal person to have in his life but the second his older sister died after giving birth to the boy, Blaze took him in as his own. He cared for him with his life and, even though the day had so far gone unplanned, maybe having this girl around would make it easier for Blaze to do his job without having to multitask for the hyperactive four-year-old.
