TWENTY • THREE:
a night of drunk words and sober thoughts

Blaze's first instinct was to grab the first bastard that has attempted to take Ellie. His grip was tight around the man's hair as he yanked him back, smashing his head against the wall. He was satisfied at the loud crack, followed by the scream of agony.

"Where the fuck did you take her?" He snarled, his grip on his hair painfully tight. When he didn't answer, Blaze aimed the muzzle of his gun to the man's temple. "Give me a fucking answer before your brains decorate the floor. And if you try fighting back I'll gladly put your head through a wall."

He nodded weakly, his face red—not just from the blood but just out of fear—as he was dragged to his feet, being shoved in the direction that Ellie was taken.

"What the fuck does your boss want?" Blaze muttered quietly, keeping his gun to his temple as the two walked down a dark hallway.

"I-I-I don't know, man," he stammered out. "H-he just told us to come here and grab the girl i-if we want some good cash. I swear, we weren't going to hurt her!"

"Yeah, well now my woman's been kidnapped by your poor excuses of a fucking group and you're going to be the bitch that helps me get her back," Blaze snapped, holding the man's hair in a death lock. "Got it?"

He nodded quickly, finally allowing his tears to fall. "Okay, okay."

Blaze stopped at the end of the hallway, looking down the hall to the left, then to the right. When he looked down, the stranger pointed left and they immediately began walking.

"If you're taking me to some bullshit room to try to attack me, I'll be sure to kill you before you can even lay a finger on me," Blaze threatened.

"I'm not, I'm not," the one kidnapper said, her voice wavering.

His voice stiffened at the scream that filled the empty hall. His jaw clenched and he began to walk faster, making sure his movements were silent but swift as they travelled deeper into the mansion. His eyes were cold and dead as they searched for the one woman taken from him, his mind blinded with rage. They headed to the end of the hall and Blaze took a left after hearing another scream, followed by a crash.

Ellie's slurred words were mixed in with her sobs the closer they became, making Blaze almost smile. He could hear the nonsense she spoke about saying last goodbyes, followed by an occasional hiccup.

"She's very entertaining."

"Shut up. Wrong choice of words, idiot."

Blaze narrowed his eyes at the shaking man before walking towards a set of double-doors. He moved his hand to the stranger's mouth to hide any sounds that left him, slowly opening the door a crack and taking a peek inside. He could feel his hand beginning to tremor as he saw three other men trying to hold Ellie as she continued to thrash against them, occasionally kicking one of them in the stomach or groin.

"That's my girl," Blaze whispered to himself, finally slamming the door open.

The men had no chance before Blaze pulled the trigger once, hitting one of them before quickly changing the gun's direction and shooting the second kidnapper between the eyes. He could see the third one pull out a gun and Blaze was quick to use his temporary prisoner as a human shield, ducking behind him just as the kidnapper pulled the trigger. Blaze reacted faster, aiming at him and (hopefully) firing the last bullet of the night.
