TWELVE:
a moment of realization

"He had become so used to having to keep himself locked in that he never realized how hard it would be to want to come back out..."

Blaze stood by the doorway, chewing on his lip as he watched Ellie sleep. After having another nightmare every other night for the last two weeks, he wanted to make sure that she was alright, checking on her every night when taking a break with his work, and once he was finished.

Ellie has not spoken a word to him since what happened at the café unless it was about what Dimitri was learning. He—even though was incredibly reluctant with the idea—gave Ellie permission to travel around the town on her own or with Dimitri. He expected her to leave and never return most days, if he was being completely honest... but, like every other time, she returned from town.

Two weeks they have not spoken and it was driving him up the wall.

Blaze always had such low faith in Ellie's actions and, being honest with himself, he was disappointed with himself for it. Karma was a real bitch because now the only woman he ever really wanted did not even notice his existence anymore. He would still help calm her down when she experienced a nightmare but once she was relaxed—also half asleep, but relaxed—she would tell him to leave.

However, Archer and her became closer from the first day they met. He treated her like she was his younger sister and Blaze was more than thankful to have a friend like Archer. He had tried so many times to think of an apology to say but he knew Ellie was fed up; all he did was constantly flip on her and the moment she thought she had everything figured out, Blaze flipped... again.

"You're such a creep," Archer whispered from behind Blaze. "Why the hell are you just watching her sleep?"

"Because I can't sleep beside her and she won't let me in her room," Blaze muttered back, crossing his arms. "I want to be here in case she has another nightmare."

"Or... you can just let me, since that's why I'm here." When Blaze glared at Archer, he raised his hands in surrender. "Don't get all jealous, braciszku, I'm just saying that she trusts me more than she does you right now—and there's no one else to blame for that but yourself."

Blaze's hands moved up to his hair once again, tugging at it while closing his eyes tightly. He knew how badly he had screwed up; Blaze had basically lost the only woman who could see through his hard exterior, who was able to make her laugh even with his poor sense of humour, who never hesitated to cook for him and his son...

He missed her company, how shy and oblivious she was to just about anything whenever he said anything even remotely dirty.; all Blaze wanted to do was grab her and kiss her, apologizing for everything he made Ellie put up with, but he knew that Ellie had given up—he saw it in her eyes how she had stopped expecting from him.

"I don't know what to do," Blaze muttered.

Archer snorted before he could stop himself, catching Blaze's attention quickly. He narrowed his eyes again, watching as his best friend slowly closed the door, crossing his arms over his chest once he was sure the door was closed.

"Listen, Blaze," Archer said, "what you need to do is figure out what the hell you want. Throughout the time I've spent with Ellie, I've learned that when she has her mind on something, she sticks to it—she wants you, and you aren't letting her in.
