THIRTY:
a nerve-wracking call
♠️"He was blinded with disgust and rage. Red, hot rage. The only thing that he could feel was the anger, causing his body to tremble at the thought of the monster that laid his hands on his family—and just how many ways he could kill him..."
blaze
With his stare blankly pointed out of the airplane window, Blaze had not even realize that he missed two Skype calls from Ellie. Thousands of thoughts ran through his mind as he thought of what was so important about her adoptive father that he had to fly all the way to Los Angeles for three days, only to go to a meeting that lasted seven hours.
He had to know who exactly that man was. All Blaze knew was that he stole almost a million dollars worth of cocaine during a bombing in one of his warehouses, leaving almost every man dead (besides Archer, thank God he left a few minutes before the explosion). Now, the man was on the run with the work that Blaze worked hard to get his hands on.
"Sir," the flight attendant spoke up, causing Blaze's head to snap in her direction, "we're about to take off soon. Are there any other things you would like before leaving?"
He could hear the flirtatious voice she used and closed his eyes from exhaustion, sighing to himself. Lord, did Ellie tire him out earlier today—how the hell was it that he was the one tired after their quickie... it was a first, he would be honest about that.
"Yes, actually," Blaze mumbled calmly, keeping his eyes closed, "I need you to grab me some coffee, made black and one sugar, I would like to be awake this long flight since I'm talking with someone about finding an engagement ring."
The flight attendant nodded and he felt the smallest of smirks pull at his lips before he shook his head, turning his computer on and calling Archer. He plugged in his earbuds and almost immediately saw Archer's face closely pressed to the computer, his eyebrows pushed together in confusion.
"Stupid fucking computer," he muttered to himself. "Hey! Can you hear me?"
Blaze winced at the loudness of his best friend, squeezing his eyes shut. Once the loud whistling was gone, Archer moved his face away from the camera and grinned cheekily at Blaze.
"What's up?" Archer asked, and Blaze knew immediately that Ellie was in the room because he was speaking Polish.
Blaze sighed. "I still haven't found anything good enough for her, man. I... this is hopeless, I'm going to end up giving her a fucking ring pop because this is ridiculous."
Archer laughed, shaking his head to himself. "Make it custom then. Something from the heart... sappy shit like that... you get the gist of what I'm trying to say, right?"
Blaze slowly nodded, his eyebrows pushed together. "Yeah. I do. You've still got everything being planned for the day I come back, right?"
He nodded, an excited smile growing on his face. "This is so exciting. You have no idea how many times I thought you would die a lonely old man and you've finally found a woman and you're going to have an amazing family."
Blaze rolled his eyes but felt the smallest of smiles tug at his lips, listening to his best friend ramble on. Yes, Blaze finally decided that it was time to ask the big question: he was going to propose to Ellie. Though Blaze was normally a man of composure and calmness, he was a nervous wreck on the inside. He already had a jeweller he wanted to help but after staring emptily at different rings, he realized that he was going never going to find the perfect engagement ring.
