"Hey Anne!"
"Diana..."
"Why the long face?"
"Well.." I said getting inside — Diana lived in a mansion, the biggest you can imagine "I've never been to a party..."
Her smile weakened "Oh... Well, that's just fine, it'll be an amazing first time! Ruby'll get here in a second and we're going to be together when we get there."
"Okay, that's alright."
"By the way, I love your outfit! It's so seventies!"
"It is, right?"
"So..."
"Don't 'So...' me, Diana. No Gilbert talk."
"Huh, that's interesting cause I wasn't even thinking about Gilbert."
"Wait, what?"
"That's right, I was just going to say that I think you should pay attention to Mr. Sloane, wouldn't you agree?"
"God, no! Charlie Sloane would be my last option! Well, second last, last is Gilbert!"
"Everything's about him, huh?"
"Oh, please! I simply—"
Heavy knocking on the door. Ruby.
Diana rushed to the get the door and I tried to recompose myself from that Gilbert/Charlie talk. When they got in, Diana had a smile on her face and I saw why: Ruby looked absolutely stunning. She was wearing an off the shoulder cream dress with pink flowers and flowy skirt. She was wearing high heels, golden earrings and necklace and she had done her makeup so nicely and her hair was tied in a low ponytail. I was so happy for her, but still I felt the guilt grow rottenly in me, guilt for wishing that she didn't look that pretty, wishing that she looked less beautiful so I wouldn't look as bad as I did. Still, I stamped a smile across my face and made sure she didn't notice those untrue wishes.
"Ruby, you look amazing, wow..."
"Thank you, Anne! You look great as well, I like your hair down like that, it looks very pretty."
I laughed it off uncomfortably "Alright, who's ready to party?"
"Almost!" Diana ran off inside her home, leaving me questioning. When she came back, she had a glass bottle in her hand, and inside, a clear liquid. "Tonight God'd bringing us the moon and we're bringing the shine!"
"Damn, Diana! You are a rebel!" Ruby giggled "Leading us to the bad place, huh?"
"Mrs. Barry, how bold! Now, let's get going, shall we?"
"Wait" Ruby stopped us in front of the door "How are we going to get there?"
Diana took some keys out of her pocket: they belonged to a white Mini Cooper that at that moment, was sitting in the Barry's garage.
"I'm taking you, that's how we're going to get there."
"You are a blessing, Diana."
"Now, let's head on to the debut party of our senior year."
When we got in the car, Ruby was in the passenger seat and I was in the back, Diana started the car I already felt in a hight school movie. I was already having so much fun, it seemed impossible to get better, when Diana honked and left the car. I was confused on why was that, but then I saw who came into the backseat with me, I swear I could scream — which in fact I did.
"Oh my God, Cole! Oh my God, oh my God, oh my God I can't believe it! I missed you so much!"
"I know, I missed you too! When Diana told me that a party was finally going to happen in Avonlea I just had to come and check it."
"You have to tell me everything about art school! How is it going? Are your friends there cooler than me? What have you done so far? I mean is the school dreamy, with old buildings, statues and big hallways or is it amazing and modern, filled with all kinds of stuff that I can't even begin to imagine? I mean—"
"I'll tell you all, but not now we're here in Avonlea, heading to Josie Pye's party and" in that moment he took the bottle from Diana's purse and drank a gulp from it "letting it shine, baby!"
I, too, took a shot and felt the alcohol burn down my throat; it was good.
Diana got in the car and blasted Only Angel, by Harry Styles as we screamed the lyrics on our way
