I always wanted my life to be as normal as possible. But as much as I tried, it was never like that. I was lucky enough to have a few years of happiness, togetherness, and love when I was younger. And Susan too. Her Dad had left when she was three years old. The only difference is that she knew the reason he left her Mom - for another woman.
I, on the other hand, had no clue. I still remember every single detail of what happened the day my Mom left Dad and me. She was so happy. She was cooking my favourite meal for us. Mom was dressed in a long white skirt and a blue button-up blouse. She was wearing a delicate pearl necklace that looked so pretty around her neck. Smiling as if she had never seen a bad day in her entire life. Her skin was so clear. She had the perfect figure - not too thin and not too fat. I was jealous of her luscious blonde hair; I had inherited my Dad's brunette hair colour. That day was perfect, and then it suddenly faded into darkness when she left. That's it. She left.
That night something else happened - I ran and crashed into someone in the woods. The same woods that I am currently staring at. The wolf's gone, but his words still haunt me. This place still haunts me.
"When I will turn you into a wolf, you will understand everything."
From that day onwards, I hated the woods so much that for me, passing through them was worse than seeing a ghost in my house. Susan has known everything about me since we met, five years ago. She is my best friend. The one who I can go to if I have any trouble. The one who I should stop right now - before she does something she will regret her entire life.
I rushed towards the washroom, praying that she was still there. I didn't even care that I had a 99.9 % chance of falling on the marble floor in my high heels. The only thing on my mind was Susan. When I reached the room, I saw Josh making out with a girl.
But that girl was not Susan. I was so relieved - she is away from that asshole. She is not here, which means I have lost her again. Great work, Anna. Now start running around again. Or maybe Josh will know.
"Ummm... uhahuh." Fake coughing did not work. It is harder than I thought it would be, to have a conversation with someone who is busy making out. "JOSH!" I screamed.
"Yaa," he replied and moved that girl's face to the side, away from him, for a while.
"Betty?" I was so confused and shocked, that I was about to loose my balance any moment.
"Hey, Annabeth from my class. You recognize me! That's..."
"Shut up... you." Josh interrupted her, and he forgot her name even though I had just said it. He is so stupid. God, why am I here? Still no answer. Got it. So I decided to get straight to the point.
"Do you know where Susan is?"
"Who?" Of course, he did not know. He had no idea who I was even. Oh, how I hate guys!
"The girl you were making out with before Betty," I pointed towards Betty and said. I was looking at him, trying to get at least some clue about Susan's whereabouts. After literally five minutes, he replied, "Oh yaa! She left."
"And?"
"She said that she wanted a drink, and then will go home."
"Thanks," I replied.
I breathed a sigh of relief and headed downstairs. It looked like it was 9 pm, but it was actually 12am. Damn it. Susan is going to be grounded for sure if she does not reach home soon. So I stood a little high up on the stairs, and traced the party with my eyes, looking for her. It was too crowded. So I decided to go downstairs and look at each person's face, till I find her.
This was harder. Groups of guys and girls were dancing with their bodies smashing into each other. Like there was so much space all ready for me to the walkthrough! I didn't even think about whether I was disturbing people.
As I was searching, I saw Alex on the other corner of the hall talking to his friends. I pushed myself through the crowds to get to him. Maybe he might know something. Damn, he was suddenly looking so much better now that I actually noticed him properly. Those jeans! And that shirt that was tight enough to show his six-pack. And those bulging muscles around his arm. He was perfect. Perfect in the wrong way.
He was surrounded by five girls and a guy who looked as perfect as he was. 'Attention-seekers' is all that came to my mind to describe his friends.
"Hey Alex," I said awkwardly, trying to not intrude.
"Hey! What's up Anna?" He was so cheerful. I started blushing for no reason. I hope he did not see my cheeks turn pink as he spoke.
"Fine... uhhh... have you seen her around?" I asked, lifting my phone to show him a picture of Susan. He looked at it carefully and said, "Maybe, why?"
"Actually, it was her that I was looking for the last time we met so... Do you have any idea where she must have gone?" I was hoping he would know something.
"YAA!" he said loudly. After seeing me make a weird facial expression, he said in a more normal voice, "I mean, she had left with these two guys."
"WHAT?" I shouted. No way. How could she just leave like that? If those two guys are not good and something bad happens to her, I will never be able to forgive myself.
I thought a lot about what to do next, but I did not know where she had gone. Alex did. He seemed like a sensible guy. He has already helped me, maybe he could do me one more favour.
"Alex, if you don't mind could you drop me to where Susan is going? Only if you know where she is."
"Yaa sure."
He gave his group a quick goodbye and told me to follow him towards his car. I was so happy and thankful that I found such a nice guy to help me out. I just hope I can reach Susan in time. Alex had a navy blue jeep parked outside the villa where the rest of the cars were parked. It had huge wheels that were a black matte colour - so posh! The only word that came out of my mouth was, "Wow."
"Yes. I know. Everyone has the same reaction when they see my jeep for the first time," Alex replied with so much confidence. WHATEVER. I should not think about him, or his jeep, so much. My priority right now is Susan. He opened the door for me, and I hopped right on to the seat - even though it was quite high for an average-heightened girl like me.
Alex turned the keys; the ignition was so powerful that the sound of the engine hurt my ears. "This is the best jeep I have had till now; it has such amazing power and speed that only a few vehicles can reach," he started describing his vehicle, but I was really not interested in hearing about it.
"That's nice." I forced a smile. "Only if you could drive like a regular driver at an average speed." I am so sneaky.
"Yes. Don't worry. You are safe with me," he smirked.
Now I was really worried. Alex took a sudden sharp turn and headed off. I would rather take a long route because the direction we were headed, was surrounded by woods.
