He took slow steps as he walked towards me. As he came closer, so did the eight men around him. This situation is getting worse by the minute. All I was thinking about was if Ethan comes now and calls the police, it may help. Alex was way too close for comfort. I was taking steps backwards to maintain my distance from him, but then I banged into one the men standing behind me – his body felt more like a concrete wall. A tear rolled down my face. The fear and terror I felt made me think that I would rather die than have their hands on me. I could not hold my composure any longer.

"What the hell are you doing?! Stop it now!" I screamed. All their reaction was, was laughter. More teardrops rolled down my face. My breathing got heavier. The view in front of me was getting more and more unclear by the second. I have to fight back for myself.

As his hands touched my face, I did not think for a second before slapping him. I did it with all the strength I could muster. I hit him hard. His right cheek got redder than a tomato. I was proud of myself. That was the bravest thing I have ever done in my life. I smiled in triumph.

"So you first slap me and then laugh? Now I will show you what a slap really feels like!" His voice was filled with rage and his eyes were bloodshot. This is what changed him from a human to a nasty animal. He put his hand on my shoulder and shoved me to the floor. I landed on my hands, to protect the other parts of my body from getting bruised or injured. I did not want my life to end before I had even fully lived it. I covered my face with my bruised hands and begged for them to stop whatever crime they were about to commit. My eyes were closed, but I could not feel any noise or sensation on me. Even though this made me wonder what was going on, I kept my eyes closed for two minutes longer. There was something strange going on. I slowly slid my hands away from my face and opened my eyes.

I stood up to see a site you only see in action movies. Half of the men were lying on the floor in pain. Two of them looked dead as they made no movement at all. The headlights of a car made it clear for me to see the view in front of me. A tall guy was punching one of the men so hard that I could hear his jaw break a few meters from me. After I saw the face of the person who was helping me, I smiled even more.

I realized that it was still dangerous, but I looked to see if Alex was among those lying in pain. He was nowhere to be seen. I had to catch him. As my eyes wandered, I saw a strange figure behind the bark of a tree nearby. I looked back to see Ethan walking towards me with worry in his eyes. His neatly put together hair was in a mess again. Even though he had fought half a dozen men, there was barely a scratch on him. His white tee shirt that was rolled up from the sleeves, was filled with dirt. The pants he wore, would no longer be wearable because of the number of holes that were now in them.

"I am fine" I answered softly, but loud enough for him to hear. He hadn't asked, but I assumed he was worried to know the answer. I noticed that he was breathing heavily, as he came to stand next to me.

Was he really so strong? He even helped a girl who never actually considered him a true friend, but rather only pretended to be nice to him because of her best friend. Now that I knew he did not think twice before helping me from such dangerous people, I began to wonder - had I misjudged Ethan earlier? Will he actually help me find my answers? Who are you, Ethan? And why are you helping me? I had so many questions to ask, but I just wanted to stay quiet for a while.

He smiled in relief and I smiled back. The people lying around were injured or dead, but we both were happy. If someone saw us right now, they would definitely think we were crazy and take us to the mental asylum. I eyed him towards the hidden asshole behind the tree.

He stepped a little closer and whispered into my ears "I knew he was there all along, but I always keep the best for last" I grinned at his attitude of joking around even in such a serious situation.
