"OMG! I got a B grade in Maths. I can't believe it," Susan's voice exploded into my ears; she looked like she was ready to collapse any moment, and she had a grimace on her face.

"Okay. I would have heard you even if you whispered it. You do know that we humans have special abilities that allow us to hear even whispers, and that a scream can damage the eardrums, which in turn..." I began a long scientific explanation, even though I knew Susan hated lectures. She interrupted my facts as she always does with a witty comeback. Backfire.

"It goes for you as well Anna. Your scientific facts damage my brain just like my screams damage your ears." Susan rolled her eyes to show how bored she was by my ten-second speech. So Susan!

Susan never liked mathematics and used to always get a D grade or at best, a C grade. But today she got a B. She really worked hard for this test. I reminded her every day this past week to study for two hours at 5 pm, and tutoring her was easy since she lived right across from me. She desperately wanted a better grade so that she would be allowed to go for the homecoming party tonight. It was a deal she had made with her mom.

The week had gone by quicker than I thought it would. There was good news as well as bad news. The bad news was that there was still no sign of Derek. Police had ended their search for him within two days and had closed his case. We don't live in a big city, so when a case like this is closed, it stays unnoticed by the court. Our town was never famous for justice. The only thing we could be known for is our high school kids like Josh and Kate showing off how rich they are. The good news, however, was that nobody else had disappeared; maybe the wolves were not involved and it was just a random incident. Dad's meeting was pretty successful so my gift was confirmed. He will come home in a few days. I could not wait for him to complete the story of Jessie and Mark. I don't know why this love story of two strangers intrigues me so personally. Mom also hasn't come back in my dreams, so I guess she learnt her lesson and figured out that I do not want to see her. Looks like I can start fresh again.

"Where's Ethan nowadays? Why is he MIA? He does not even pick up my phone calls and when he does, he says he is too busy to talk!" said Susan. She was having the same thoughts that I have had for a few days now. He might be busy with his hunting job; I know he wants to impress his father and prove that he was born to be a hunter. I couldn't tell Susan this information. I feel so bad keeping things like this from her - after all, she is my best friend. I thought that I would only have to keep one secret from her. Since then, I've had to keep so many more secrets just to keep the first one. My life is a mess and I have no control over it. Yet I am going to a high school party, where there is no purpose or benefit of attending.

"Could you answer me for once," Susan said in an irritated voice as she scrolled through her phone. I get lost in my thoughts from time to time.

"And remind me to tell Ethan to join Facebook or Instagram so that we don't have to irritate him and we can just know where he is!"

"Ethan hates the internet. He does not like the popularity that he has gained at Spectrum, so the chances of him getting social media are slim to none. He won't agree at all." Susan had told him much time before, to come on social media. For Ethan, it was just a waste of time and I totally understand. After all, he is not just a teenage heartthrob but a hunter too. Did I just call Ethan a heartthrob?

"Okay, fine. So many reasons to dislike him," Susan said as she switched off her phone so she could give her full attention to our conversation.

"So we only have two minutes till we get home; any last-minute tips for your outfit and jewellery?"

"Susan, it's just a casual school party - with a strawberry punch and dull music. What's the point of getting so excited?" I looked a bit disappointed, as I was already assuming the party would be a fail. Am I wasting my time even going? Why does my class hold so many parties in the first place?
