Elena sat at a table with her newest book in front of a line of fans. She still couldn't believe she had let Katherine convince her to cause a scene at her last one and now she was just hoping everything went smoothly.

"Who should I make it out to?" She smiled up as the young girl handed her a book.

"Jojo." The girl smiled. "My girlfriend's  a huge fan." Elena signed it and handed it to her, waiting for the next person in line. The person placed the book in front of her.

"Who do I make it out to?" Elena looked up and her eyes widened.

"A man who owes you an apology." Elijah smiled gently at her. Elena maintained her professionalism as she scribbled her name in the book and smiled politely as she handed it back.

"Next,"

"Miss Gilbert, I-"

"I'm busy," Elena said simply, waving up the next person in line.

"I'll wait." Elijah walked away and sat at a table outside the bookstore. Elena could see him through the window from her spot.

After the event was over, she noticed him still sitting there. Katherine was right about him. Elena packed up her things and told her publicist to take her stuff to the office. She went to the front of the store and found him reading her book.

"You're still here." She commented pulling his attention away from the pages.

"I'm a man of my word." He smiled, closing the book.

"Why are you here?"

"I wanted to apologize. I was wrong and I misjudged you. I was very harsh and it wasn't fair to you." Elena looked at him skeptically, wondering if he meant it.

"Well, thank you." Elena shrugged. "It's really okay. If anyone knows about Katherine ruining your life, it's me." She smiled sympathetically.

"Could I interest you in a cup of coffee?" He offered, standing up. Elena thought for a moment.

"I guess that would be okay." He was attractive and a part of her wished she had met him before Katherine.

Elijah escorted her to his car and the pair drove to the Grill. They walked inside and sat down at the table. They both ordered coffee and waited. Elena remained silent, not sure what to say. Katherine had always been better at flirting and she wasn't sure why she couldn't just do the job herself.

"Why am I here?" Elena snapped as she sat away from her sister.

"I need your help." She stated, crossing her arms as if it was obvious.

"And why on Earth would I help you?"

"Because I'm going to make you and your little friends rich." Elena looked at her skeptically but leaned back in her seat, waiting for her sister to continue. "My recent attempt to find love has failed and I need your help to get payback. You will be going after the billionaire, Elijah Mikaelson."

"Why can't you?"

"He already knows me. You, on the other hand, are exactly the type of girl he needs. Especially because you hate me."

"News flash, we have the same face." Katherine rolled her eyes at her sister's doubts.

"Trust me, I've got a plan."

"So..." Elena started awkwardly.

"I was reading your book. You're very talented." Elijah complimented, causing her to blush.

"Thank you. I've always loved writing and halfway through med school I realized that I would rather be a writer. Luckily it was successful or I think my parents would've killed me." She chuckled.

"Speaking of family, besides the obvious, what's your family like?" He asked. Katherine had told her how important family was to him.

"Katherine and I weren't actually raised together. My birth parents couldn't handle raising two kids and so they gave me away to my aunt and uncle. They adopted me and raised me as their own. I have a younger brother, Jeremy and I only met Katherine when we were 18. She's been a pain in my ass ever since."

"Was it weird meeting someone who looks just like you?" Katherine had always been secretive about her history. Elena being honest about her family helped him grow to trust her.

"My parents told me the truth when I was 16. I was kinda prepared to meet her but yeah, it was still weird. I had this whole idea of how our first meeting would go but then she turned out to be a bitch." Elijah laughed as Elena made fun of her sister. "What about you? I've met Kol but, whats the rest of your family like?"

"I have 4 brothers and 2 sisters." Elena's eyes widened. Elijah chuckled. "Freya is the oldest, she lives in Texas with her wife and their son. Then there is Finn who lives in Italy with his wife. I'm the third oldest. I have a half brother Niklaus who travels the world, right now I believe he's staying in Chicago. Then there is Kol who you've already had the displeasure of meeting." Elena smiled as Elijah spoke of his siblings. She could tell how much he loved them. "After Kol is Rebekah. She lives in New York with her boyfriend, I think? And my youngest brother Henrik still lives with our parents."

"Wow." Elena breathed out as he finished. "May I ask about the half brother...?" She asked nervously.

"Of course. My mother had been unfaithful to my father after I was born. My father still raised Klaus as his own and they only told us a few years ago." He explained. For some reason he felt like he could trust her. Despite everything that happened with Katherine, Elijah had to give Elena the benefit of the doubt, especially after he lashed out at her.

"Wow and I thought my family felt like a soap opera." Elena chuckled. "Sorry, that's insensitive." She sighed awkwardly.

"No, you're right." He smiled to show her he wasn't fazed by her comment. "And I didn't even tell you that I didn't know Freya until three years ago."

"It seems we have a lot in common." Elena bit her lip as she placed her hand on the table. He reached across and took it, looking into her eyes for confirmation. She nodded slightly.

"It's nice to talk to someone who understands."

They talked and finished their coffee. Elijah felt so comfortable around her. He walked her to his car and drove her back to the book store to get her own. He got out of the car and walked around to open her door.

She got out and stared at him for a moment, neither of them wanting the afternoon to end. She stood on her toes and pecked his lips, surprising him. He grinned as she pulled away.

"When can I see you again?"
