"Hey, Bekah!" Caroline called out as she threw her keys down on the table. The other blonde joined her in the common area of their apartment. Caroline threw her arms around her, thrilled to be back in the new life she had built for herself without the guilt of the situation weighing down on her. Things were finally working out. Rebekah did not return the embrace.
"We need to talk." She stated her tone warning Caroline about the conversation that was about to come.
"What's wrong?" Caroline put her stuff down and moved to the couch, patting for Rebekah to sit beside her.
"I know."
"What?" Rebekah gave Caroline a look and her heart began to race.
"I know about Katherine." Caroline felt like she was going to puke as the words fell from Rebekah's lips. Caroline paled as she processed what Rebekah was saying to her.
"Does Klaus know?" Caroline squeaked. Rebekah rolled her eyes.
"No. I didn't want to be the one to crush my brother's heart." She snapped, glaring at Caroline. "How could you do this to him?"
"I didn't know him!" Caroline argued, trying to defend herself. "We already told Katherine that we aren't doing it anymore."
"We?" Caroline's flushed as she realized Rebekah didn't know the whole truth.
"I will tell you everything but you have to promise to keep it to yourself."
"No. I don't owe you anything. You are going to tell me the whole story and I will decide what I want to do with the information." Rebekah crossed her arms and waited for Caroline to tell her everything.
"Fine." Caroline ran a hand through her hair. "After Elijah found out the truth about Katherine, she wanted revenge on him and Klaus. She called Elena and recruited me, her and Bonnie to go after the Mikealsons in exchange for a lot of money. We would have said no but we were going to make at least 5 million dollars each and we couldn't pass up the opportunity. That much money is life changing for people like us. Katherine devised a scheme and all we had to do was make your brothers fall in love with us." Rebekah was getting angrier as Caroline told her the story. "But everything changed when we got to know them. I fell in love with Klaus. Elena fell in love with Elijah. Bonnie fell in love with Kol. We couldn't keep lying to them. I went to New Orleans so the three of us could tell Katherine that we were done." Rebekah softened slightly.
"So you're no longer trying to marry him for his money?"
"No. If I marry Klaus it will be because we love each other." Caroline promised.
"And Elena and Bonnie feel the same way?" She questioned. Caroline nodded.
"I promise. We have no intention of hurting your brothers."
"What about Stefan?" Caroline furrowed her brows.
"What do you mean?"
"Where does he fit into all of this?"
"I have no idea." She admitted honestly. Rebekah looked at her skeptically. "I thought Stefan was Klaus's friend."
"Bloody hell this situation is insane," Rebekah mumbled under her breath, shaking her head.
"I'm so sorry Bekah. I promise I will be completely honest with you from now on. Klaus is everything to me and I will do whatever it takes to make it up to both of you." Caroline vowed, taking Rebekah's hand in her own.
"If you hurt my brother I will destroy you," Rebekah warned before lightly squeezing Caroline's hand. A small smile appeared on her lips and Caroline felt a sense of relief for the first time since she had arrived home.
"They backed out?" Katherine was pacing back and forth, her heels clicking on the floor of Kai's apartment.
"They had the audacity to tell me they were in love." She scoffed. "God they're pathetic."
"Did you have them sign a contract?" Kai wondered as he sat on the couch watching her move around the room.
"A little difficult when you can't write down what you're doing." She pointed out and he shrugged.
"I figured you would have found a way around it." She glared at him and he held up his hands in mock surrender. He was not interested in pissing off the great Katherine Pierce.
"I've never needed to before, it was always just me." She ran a hand through her hair. "I thought of everything, I planned every detail perfectly and it was going to work. Then they pull this." Katherine was livid. She had constructed the perfect plan to get her revenge on the Mikaelsons and her pathetic sister was going to ruin it all.
"So dramatic. Why don't you just tell them the truth? Get your revenge on the Mikaelsons and your sister and her friends, all at once." Kai was an evil genius, just like Katherine. She had to admit, having him around had been nice.
"I think you're onto something," Katherine smirked as the idea developed in her head. She could almost taste the victory. Kai held out his hand and Katherine took it, allowing him to guide her onto the couch. She leaned over and kissed him which he happily returned.
Things were about to get messy and Katherine had never been more excited to watch the world burn.
