Klaus had come to the door of Caroline and Rebekah's apartment at 6 o clock sharp to pick up his date. When Caroline opened the door he took a moment to stare at how gorgeous she looked.
"Hi." She mumbled, flustered by his heated gaze. "Shall we?" She knew she would eventually have to go on a date with Klaus Mikaelson but now, it seemed like a fantasy. She was nervous. If he didn't like her, the plan would fail. Not to mention the fact that she actually liked him.
"Yes." He shook out of his trance and smiled, taking her hand.
"Have fun!" Rebekah called out to them. "But not too much fun!" Caroline chuckled at Klaus' annoyed look.
"Bye Bekah!" She yelled back.
"Don't give in to her antics." Klaus groaned.
"Where are we going?" Caroline asked to distract Klaus from his sister.
"Dinner and a little surprise." He told her. She eyed him suspiciously but decided no to question his surprise.
As soon as Klaus and Caroline drove away, Rebekah texted Stefan to meet her. He knocked on the door a few minutes later and she pulled him inside with a grin on her face.
"I thought you said New York was a one-time thing." Stefan chuckled as he sat down on the couch.
"I lied." Rebekah shrugged, sitting down next to him. "That night was one of the best nights I've had in a while. I'm not willing to give this up just yet." She leaned in to kiss him but he stopped her.
"What about Marcel?" Stefan asked, reminding her of her boyfriend.
"Marcel's not here." She said simply, aware that he had glanced at her lips. "The only ones here are you and me." She trailed her fingers along his chest, tempting him to do something.
"What about Klaus and Caroline? They could come back at any moment."
"They just left. Plus, Klaus is taking her to see the fireworks tonight." Rebekah sighed. "If you don't want to we-" Stefan captured her lips, cutting her off. She reached for his face as his arms snaked around her waist. He pulled her onto his lap and she deepened the kiss, taking control.
Caroline was amazed by the food and Klaus could not help but smile at the small moans she made. She had eaten at fancy restaurants before but nothing this extravagant.
"Do you come here often?" Caroline asked after cleaning off her plate.
"My parents took us here whenever we were in Chicago." Klaus began. "Whenever we moved to a new place, they had to find the most extravagant restaurants so no one would ever doubt our status."
"You don't sound too happy about that." Caroline pointed out.
"My parents liked to flaunt our riches. We never felt that way." He shrugged, not knowing how else to describe it.
"So why did you bring me here?"
"I wanted to impress you."
"I'm not impressed by all this." Klaus gave her a look and she knew he was silently referring to her love of the appetizers. "I'll admit the food is good, but so is a Big Mac. I want to be impressed by you, your personality, what you like... I was impressed by you the first day we met not because of your money but because of your talent."
"You are an incredible woman." Klaus breathed out, in awe of his date. "Why don't we get out of here and I'll take you somewhere else for dessert?"
"What about your surprise?" Caroline wondered.
"There will be plenty of time for that. Come on." Klaus threw a few hundred on the table and escorted Caroline out of the restaurant. He drove to somewhere he used to love and parked on the street. Caroline followed him to an ice cream stand on the side of the road. They ordered and took their cones to a picnic table.
"So?" Caroline asked, wondering why he had brought her there.
"My brother Kol was always a picky eater. So after my parents brought us to restaurants like that, Elijah would take us here. Me, Elijah, Kol and Rebekah would sneak off and some of our best memories were made at places like this." Caroline grinned as Klaus gushed about his siblings. "Eventually we let Finn in on the secret and he blabbed to our mother so we couldn't go anymore but for a few years, this was my favourite place to go." Caroline leaned in and pressed her lips to his cheek.
"Klaus." She mumbled as she rested her forehead against his. "I'm impressed."
"Caroline." He replied. "You have ice cream on your nose." She pulled back in surprise.
"What? Where?" He swiped his finger on his ice cream before wiping it on her nose.
"Right there." He grinned playfully.
"Niklaus Mikaelson!" She gasped dramatically. "I'm so going to get you!"
"I'd like to see you try." She chased after him and managed to get some on his cheek. She smirked proudly until he turned on her. She ran away squealing until he had her backed against a tree.
"Don't do it." She pleaded, glancing at the cone in his hand.
"What's in it for me?" Klaus taunted, bringing the cone closer to her hair. Caroline stared at Klaus, his face only a few inches away from hers. She placed a hand on either side of his face and searched his eyes for permission. She pulled him towards her and connected their lips surprising him. They made out against the tree, the ice cream tumbling from his hand as he wrapped his arms around her.
Rebekah handed Stefan his clothes as she pulled her own on.
"Do you want a cup of coffee? A glass of wine? Bourbon?" She asked as he pulled his shirt over his head.
"I'll take a cup of coffee." He smiled, following her into the kitchen. "I'll take-"
"Black. I know Stef." She chuckled as she started her machine.
"What time is Caroline supposed to be back?" He asked, sitting on a stool at the island.
"Not sure. The fireworks don't start for another hour so we probably have two." Rebekah shrugged.
"Want to watch a movie or something?"
"Sure," Rebekah agreed, pouring two mugs of coffee. She handed one to Stefan before mixing sugar into hers. When she finished, the pair made their way to the couch where Rebekah picked a movie. She placed her cup on the table before snuggling into Stefan's side. He looked down at her and smiled before pecking the top of her head.
"This is nice." He sighed before focusing his attention on the movie.
"It really is."
Caroline and Klaus stood on the roof of his building, waiting for his surprise. He wrapped his arms around her waist from behind and looked up at the sky.
"The roof? Please tell me your kink isn't roof sex." Caroline chuckled, turning her head to look at him.
"Well that wasn't my first idea, I can't say that I'd mind..." He teased. "Just look up at the sky and wait." She did as instructed and soon enough she understood why.
Bursts of colourful light shot through the sky, exploding as they reached their pique.
"Fireworks?" She breathed out in awe.
"Do you like the surprise?" Klaus asked, grinning at the smile on Caroline's face.
"It's incredible." When the fireworks stopped, Caroline turned around and looked at Klaus. "Thank you for tonight."
"Anything for you, Love."
