"Mom I'm leaving."

"Ok, and Calum's going to be there too?" My mom is so protective.

"Yes," I rolled my eyes and walked out of the house the door banging shut behind me. I could see that the sun was going to be setting soon. It was cold outside so I pulled my black trench coat tighter around my body. It was lightly snowing and the ground was covered just enough that you could see tiny blades of grass peeking up from the fresh snow. I started down the sidewalk, bending my head down so the snow wouldn't get in my eyes. I counted every step I took when my black vans hit the snowy pavement.

"Oh!" I looked up as I ran into someone. The first thing I noticed about him was the vibrant red hair. I wondered how long he had before the hair turned pink. He looked down at me with a devilish grin plastered on his face. I shifted on my feet, he was blocking my way but still hadn't moved.

"Ahem," I cleared my throat "excuse me".

"Oh of course, my bad." He stepped aside and I walked on, still feeling his eyes boring into the back of my head. I quickened my pace slightly, still feeling slightly weird from the run in.

I arrived at the cafe minutes later. I was freezing now. My ears were stinging from the cold and my nose was running. I wiped it with my sleeve before I entered the cafe. The bell above the door chimed as I opened it. The first person I saw was Calum. He grinned when he saw me.

"Hey Ash, I want you to meet Aiden." Calum winked at me and gave me a thumbs up from behind Aiden.

I gave a small smile to Aiden then grabbed Calum's arm and dragged him to the other side of the room.

I crossed my arms "You gotta stop doing that Cal".

"Doing what?" He smiled innocently.

I shook my head, "Oh please you know what".

"I don't know what you're talking about"

"Um, trying to set me up with every other gay boy you meet!"

Calum just cocked his head to the side, still playing innocent. "What? I don't do that."

I raised his eyebrows and he caved. "Ok fine! C'mon give him a chance! He's cute," Calum whined.

I was used to Calum doing this to me by now. I came out to Calum that I was gay when I was 13. Honestly, he was a little uncomfortable at first. He had never really met a gay person before and didn't know how he should act. When I told him, my stomach was twisted into knots, he was the first person I came out to. It felt like admitting it to Calum was like admitting it to myself too. I flat out told him and when he didn't say anything I cried. I thought he hated me. But he just hugged me as I cried and assured me that he didn't hate me. He acted weird at first but now he's obviously comfortable with it, trying to set me up with every hot gay boy in a 500 mile radius. It's annoying but I know he's just trying to do something for me at the same time. I told Calum that I didn't like him romanticly. I mean he's nice looking and all but he's... Calum... my best friend not my boyfriend. I'm like 80% sure he's straight. The other 20% is for the time he experimented with other guys.

"Ashton! Get your butt over here," Calum waved from the small stage in the cafe.

I hadn't even noticed that he left but I walked towards the stage. I was ready to perform. It was Friday and we always performed at the cafe. It was just a small thing. We would sing a couple acoustic covers and we would be done. Sometimes we had a suggestion box for people to add songs they want us to sing. It was fun.

We started with "I Miss You" by Blink 182. Calum did most of the vocals, he could hit higher notes than me but I still sang the chorus some background vocals. But I mostly played the drums. I sat upon the Cajon and started playing the beat to the song.

"Hello there, the angel from my nightmare, the shadow in the background of the morgue..." Calum sang.

When we finished, we got a small applause from the people in the cafe. Calum and I walked to the counter and got coffee. I cringed when Calum put loads of sugar in cream in his coffee. I hated sweet coffee. It just tastes wrong. I put just a small bit of cream. We walked to one of the couches in the cafe and sat down. Literally seconds after I sat down, Aiden walked over and sat down right next to me.

"Oh my gosh, that performance was beautiful! You two are such great singers! Wow! How long have you been singing? It must have taken forever to achieve a beautiful voice given to you by angels themselves! Wow can you
teach me to sing?" Aiden gushed.

"Uh, thanks. And it doesn't really work like that... Alex."

"It's Aiden."

"Same thing." I shrugged. Aiden seemed offended and kind of just excused himself by saying that he was going to check out some books.

"What was that for?" Calum elbowed me.

"He was annoying me..."

Calum glared at me, "That was really rude."

I looked at him as innocently as possible.

"But also kind of funny," Calum laughed. I joined in.

It was late now. Calum and I had stayed up the cafe talking about juicy gossip. Turned out that Calum caught the most popular guy at our school, Noah, cheating on his girlfriend Delaney with another girl named Jessica. It was a mess but there's more, rumor had it that Noah's gay and the gossip is so bad nobody knows what's true or not. Then there was leaked nudes of a girl in our school. I felt bad for her and made a mental note to say hi to her if I saw her in school on Monday.

I walked along the sidewalk and quietly sang along to the tune of "Come as You Are" by Nirvana until I was grabbed by the collar from behind. The breath got knocked from my body. I tried to gasp for breath, despite being dragged and choked. I was shoved up against a brick wall. My head pounded. I looked up and saw the same guy from earlier. The one with the red hair. He gave me another one of his devilish grins except this time, his teeth were sharp and pointed, inhuman. His eyes now perfectly matched his red hair. I tried to scream but my breath was caught in my throat. I just stared up at him in complete horror. He bent his head down now, towards my throat. His sharp teeth grazed my neck and this time I screamed.

"Oh for goodness sakes Michael, another one? What am I to do with you?" A strikingly tall boy about my age walked towards us with a strange calmness. He had blonde hair that was styled into a perfect quiff. Even though it was night his eyes still popped out in a lovely shade of blue. He had his hands in his pockets and raised his eyebrows. Michael lifted his head from my throat to look at the boy.

"Aw come on, I was just having some fun, I wasn't going to drain him."

"Yeah that's what you said the last time you killed someone and I'm not falling for your shit again Michael."

"Always the righteous one, Luke," Michael observed. He raised his hands and backed away from me.

"All yours," I blinked and Michael was gone.

"Wh-what was that?" I felt scared.

Luke didn't answer my question. "You shouldn't be walking the streets by yourself."

I folded my arms, "Well I wasn't expecting to be attacked by a freakin whatever that was, sorry."

Luke looked at me with an amused expression.

"Well, thanks for saving my life. I appreciate it. But I gotta head home..." I was still shaken up but I walked around Luke and started walking home. When had I rounded the corner to the Alley that we were in, I started sprinting home as fast as my legs would allow me.

"See you on Monday!," Luke called. When I turned around to ask what he meant, he was already gone.
