"Ashton, can you do the dishes for me?"

"But I already cleaned the cat box, took out the trash, cleaned my room, and cleaned the bathroom, which was disgusting by the way, can't Lauren do it or something?"

"Ashton, just do it"

"Nah."

"Don't use that tone on me Ashton! I am your mother, you must do whatever I say. I swear I am the only one around here who does anything."

"Oh, you? That's funny." I sarcastically remarked. I felt my anger rising up. Instead of blowing up in front of my mother, I told her I would do it when I got back from my walk and left. Sometimes I just needed to breath.

When I stepped outside, I felt the sharp cool air hit my face. It felt good after being in my house for so long. Me and my mother argue about the stupidest things and we usually make up about ten minutes later. I just started walking, not really knowing exactly where I was going. I knew the town pretty well so I would be able to find my way back no matter what.

Suddenly it started to snow. I thought it was pretty and calming. The way the snowflakes slowly drifted down from the sky with a sort of lazy elegance. Each one completely different and unique in its own beautiful way.

Then the wind picked up and it started snowing harder. About six minutes later it was a storm. I could barely see in front of me. I tried to see what street I was on so I could find my way back home, but they were covered in snow already. I wandered aimlessly, trying to find a road so I could find shelter from the storm. I didn't have my phone with me but even if I did, I was too stubborn to call my mom. Ugh, why couldn't I have just done the damn dishes?

"Hey, what are you doing out here?" I heard a voice call.

I turned around only to find the one and only Luke. "I could say same the same thing about you."

Flecks of snow were falling onto my eyelashes, making it hard to see him, so I squinted my eyes.

"I saw you walking out here through my bedroom window."

"You live around here?" I questioned while shoving my hands in my pockets for warmth.

"I live right there," Luke pointed to a brick apartment building, "Do you want to come in and warm up?"

"I thought you said you wanted me to stay away..." I said warily.

"I do. It's just for tonight. It would be cruel for me to leave you out here all helpless and cold, wouldn't it?"

The apartment was like a mix between modern and vintage. There was a modern couch in the living room, which was the first room you saw in the apartment. It had dozens of pillows and blankets on them and it looked so comfortable that I would have plopped right down on it if I knew Luke well enough to. There was a brick wall along the left side of the room. There were photos hanging all along the wall, most of them black and white. All along another wall, there were shelves upon shelves of books. Tons of them. Some of them looked like they were at the point of falling apart from the spine if I ever tried to pick it up and some looked newer, I even recognized some of them. There was a kitchen past the living room. There were two doors along the right side of the apartment which assumed were the bathroom and bedroom. Overall, the apartment was cozy. It wasn't too big but it wasn't small and squishy either. Just enough room for one or two people.

I took of my coat and scarf and hung them up on the coat rack.

"Where are your parents?"

"They died a couple centuries ago," Luke gave a small smile, "I live by myself".
