Ashtons P.O.V

“Ash, who is that guy I keep seeing you with?”

“Ooh is Calum jealous?” I teased.

“No! I’m just curious.” Calum leaned over the lunch table.

I didn’t know how to answer that question because I didn’t even know myself. I mean who is Luke really?

“I don’t know” I said.

“Do you like him?” Calum brightened up.

“No! I mean I don’t know. It’s like one minute he’s acting like a jerk and the next he’s inviting me to sleep with him.” I hadn’t meant for that last part to come out.

“ASHTON IRWIN WHAT?!”

“No no no no, not like that Calum.” I tried to cover up my mistake. “I got lost in the storm and he let me stay at house for the night, no biggie.” I tried to wave it off.

“Yeah but in his bead?” Calum smirked.

I just rolled my eyes.

“Did you cuddle?”

“No,” I laughed.

“Sounds to me like you guys got something going on.”

“No, we could never be together.” I didn’t know how a vampire dating a human would work out.

“Why not?” Calum was bewildered “You’re hot, he’s hot. You would be perfect together!”

“It’s more than that.” I laughed.

“Yeah okay.”

“Calum.”

“What?”

“Don’t do anything.”

“What are you talking about?”

“Don’t try to set us up.”

“But Ash-”

“Cal.” I tried to look stern. But I knew that in his brain, he was already formulating a plan and there was nothing I could do to stop him. I just sighed and shook my head. Oh how I wish I could just tell him. But would he even believe me? And would that be betraying Luke?

“Well anyways, tell me the deets!”

“Deets?”

“Details.” Calum rolled his eyes as if it were the most obvious thing in the world.

“Ohh,” I went ahead and told him everything, excluding the vampire stuff. I said that we met in one of the school classes, instead of saving me from a vampire that wanted to suck my blood. duh.

After lunch I walked back to my locker. I opened it and a note fell out. After I picked it up from the floor, I read it. It said ‘Meet me in back of school after classes -Luke xx’ Hmm…

I walked through the back doors to see Luke standing against the brick wall of the school. He had his hands shoved in his pockets and his feet were crossed. his grew beanie pushed his hair away from his face and he looked calm. When he saw me, his whole demeanor changed. He leaned away from the brick wall and gave me a smile.

“So whats up?”

“I think we should keep on the down low.”

“What?”

“I can’t be seen with you in public.”

“What the hell? Why? And it’s not like theres anything to hide… we’re not dating.”

“No I know. It’s just… argh… there’s people looking for me Ashton. People that want me dead. People that will kill anyone that gets in their way. If you think Michael is your enemy, you’re wrong. Michael is like a freaking saint compared to them.”

Lukes words sent shivers down my back, but he continued.

“When I first saw you I just wanted to know more about you, But then I said no. I can’t let my selfishness get in the way. I can’t sacrifice your life for my wants and needs. Except Ashton, I’m not that guy. I’m not the guy that if I love something enough, I let it go. I just hold on tighter. I’m selfish. So selfish.”

Before he could continue any more I went up to him and got in his face. “Luke. You’re not selfish. You saved me from Michael twice, and you didn’t even have to do that. But even more, you let me stay at your apartment when you could have just saved yourself the trouble and left me outside in a blizzard. We will make this work. We will continue, whatever the hell this is ok?”

By the time I finished talking, Luke already composed himself.

“Ok.”

I gave him one of my cheeky grins and he grinned back.

“I gotta go… I’ll text you.”

“Ok. And I’m grounded by the way, so I gotta head home and I’m not allowed to leave the house for anything but school.”

“Why?”

“I kind of didn’t tell my mom where I was when I was at your place.”

Luke just smile. “Human problems.”

“See ya.”

“Later Ash.”

I got home to find my mom passed out on the couch with an empty bottle of Vodka on the floor next to her.
