Chapter 24: Hiding

Hunter's POV:

I looked at Angel as she shook her knee. I looked at my parents as they paced the room. Eliza and Alex calmed down Jasmine and Jeremiah. Kyle and Lucas were also pacing the floor. Yesterday evening Evelyn showed up and showed us that she's been practicing witchcraft. She has powers. This was crazy. We've been hiding in the hotel all night.

I looked at Elease as she meditated in the corner. I didn't understand how she wasn't freaking but she said that she was tryna channel all her powers. I rubbed my face. I've been a nervous, paranoid wreck since Evelyn showed up. She's been terrorizing the kingdom til she finds us. I looked at Angel again. I knew she was more pissed than any of us.

Evelyn killed her mother yesterday. Evelyn hypnotized the guards and made them shoot her Mom. Then Evelyn slit her throat. It was horrific. I felt so bad for Angel. I called up Ja'Von and Dad broke the news to him. He didn't believe us but ten minutes later, we got a call from him.

He was at city hall and saw Misha's dead body. He was heartbroken and in so much pain. I knew he and Angel were hurting badly. We haven't heard anything back from him yet. I assumed he wanted to be left alone. I looked up at Jade. She was sitting in Violet's lap. I knew me and her pick at each other.

It was what siblings do. But having the thought of them being taken away from you is so hard. I love Violet, even if she irritates me. I couldn't imagine what I would do if Evelyn killed her. So I'm imagining what would happen if I lost my parents. I couldn't live with myself. So I could imagine what Angel was feeling.

She lost her only relative family. I know she was hurting. I put my arm around her. She didn't look at me but she grabbed my hand and held it. She shook her knee even faster. "Dad do you have any idea where we could go?" I asked. He shook his head. "No. There's nowhere in the kingdom we could go without Evelyn hearing about it." He said.

"How?" Alex asked. "We're famous. People everywhere would see us and draw a scene." Alison said. "I know where we can go." Lucas said. We looked at him. "Where?" Eliza asked. "Elease'a house. I don't think Evelyn would find us there." He said. We all looked at Elease.

"Could we Elease?" I asked. "I suppose but we need to be very careful. No one is allowed to see us. That'll draw attention." She said. I called for guards to help us out the hotel. We got in the van and drove off towards Elease's house. When we pulled out, my Mom and Dad made faces. "This is where you live?" Mom asked.

Elease sighed. "Mom, Dad, don't." I said. I picked up Jade and held Angel's hand as we walked in. "So Elease...what do you do for a living?" Mom asked, looking around. "No offense Alison, but this is not the time for conversation. Evelyn is dangerous." Elease said. "No kidding. You see how she turned all them guards against us?" Kyle said.

"She used Blood Magic." Elease said. "What?" Alex asked. "Blood Magic. The darkest magic there is. I don't use it because it can easily turn you evil. Given how Evelyn was always evil, it didn't take long for it to consume her. Mind control is one of those powers." She said. "How did she get mixed up in this?" Dad asked.

"I don't know. But if someone is really desperate to get revenge, witchcraft is the way to go." Elease said. "I don't know why. Angel has done nothing to Evelyn. Evelyn is the one who starts shit." Kyle said. "Look. Let's try to think of our next move. We know Evelyn is out to get Angel. That we know." Dad said.

I looked at her. Angel stood next to the window and stared out of it. "She also wants Jade dead." Elease said. "Why? Jade has done nothing to her." I said. "She's the daughter of Angel. She wants any trace of Angel gone." Elease said. "This is all too much." Alex said.
