My suspicions were right of course. The minute I saw Lady Jenna Varelli make her way to the royal table not even two minutes since they sat there, I knew what was going to happen.
I wasn't sure whether my brother was too blinded by his infatuation to the Princess or has helplessly fallen prey to her friend's sweet words but he always failed to see through the two women's conniving tricks.
It was always the same, Lady Jenna would engage my brother in conversation. After a few minutes of compliments and random touching of the medals and badges pinned to Gali's gala coat which always made him blush, Princess Maiena would excuse herself from the table to "fix her dress" or "retouch her makeup" or do whatever girly excuse she can whip up. The King and Crown Prince who were already flanked on all sides by Earls and Counts who would undoubtedly swamp the royals with their endless lists of requests would just shrug and let the Princess leave with her lady-in-waiting Lady Cora.
When she was sure the Princess has successfully sneaked away to their rendezvous, Lady Jenna would then leave my brother who would go and wait outside the powder room for the ladies who won't even be there. He didn't know that but I did.
I knew exactly where Princess Maiena was. Confident that five of the most elite knights of the kingdom including my father were keeping close guard to the King and Crown Prince, I followed her.
I rode my Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX motorcycle and went to the party bus that I knew would be parked near the ballroom. Convincing the guard keeping watch outside it to open the door for me didn't take more than a rough grabbing of his collar and a very serious warning.
A now iconic white hat was hooked on the headrest of the driver's seat. I spotted the Princess within seconds. She was the one surrounded by adoring Lords who were begging for her attention like bees to a single white rose in a barren garden or more like vultures to a pretty prey.
Not that any of them had a real chance at the Princess's affections. Only foreign princes, kings or members of a royal family with a claim to a throne were allowed to court the most coveted daughter of King Thaddeus. All these losers could only go as far as a drink or a dance they offered. A touch on a wrong place with the Princess would cause that particular Lord his hands.
I cut through the crowd of Lords and Ladies swaying to strobe lights and techno music. A stark contrast to the boring ball they all sneaked out from.
I reached the Princess in two seconds and grabbed the hand of the gentleman whose offer for a dance she just accepted. I looked down at the Lord's shocked face as I contemplated on breaking his fingers one by one at the thought of him almost touching her. Whatever he was going to say fell dead on his agape mouth when he saw who I was. It was probably just some threat and a declaration of his title and lands. Nothing that could intimidate me. I let him go and he was gone in an instant.
I looked down at the Princess who just pouted and rolled her eyes at me. I reached my hand out to her as I swept the cramped space for threats. Unlike my brother, I knew not to make the mistake of staring too long into her eyes. I was not to fall into whatever enchantment she had that had these wimps groveling at her feet.
Although, the fact that being around the Princess makes my blood flow like raging rapids, I will not be weak like these noble men.
She is a royal. I am a royal guard. End of story.
"It's over, Your Highness. Come with me." I said, as if my open hand was not an obvious enough declaration of my intention to remove her from that scene.
She ignored my gesture. Instead, she stood up and brushed past me. "I will remember this," she said under her breath in a cold and menacing tone.
Whether she liked it or not, I was immediately behind her, shielding her body with mine as we made our way to the exit. Did she really think she'd scare me? No way.

A/N:
That's all the updates I have today. How's do you feel about the story so far?
For this chapter, I used to prompts since the word count for each one is low. Did you catch the two sentences?
Also, did you guess whose POV this chapter was told from?
Thank you. Til next time!
