"Where are you going?" She asked when I stood and walked away from her.
I didn't have to turn to know that she had that adorable pout on her full lips and that irresistible look in her doe eyes which always melted my heart.
I wasn't sure if Princess Maiena knew it or not, but she has mastered the art of pulling on the right strings of my heart at just the right moment to get what she wanted.
"I'm just going to adjust the thermostat. It's too warm." I told her.
"No, it's not."
"Yes, it is. You're sweating." I replied as I turned the temperature down.
"It's not the air conditioner's fault, you know?" I heard her say from behind me as I felt her arms snake around my waist. I inhaled sharply as the softness of her bosom pressed on my back and her breath brushed against my bare skin.
"Maiena..." I half-whispered and half-groaned.
"It's your fault for being so hot." She whispered as she kissed my shoulder blade. "Come back to bed."
What man wouldn't lose his mind with that? In one swift motion, I broke free from her arms, turned to face her, pulled her close and seized her lips with mine. I kissed her with all the burning passion inside me and lifted her up while my eager tongue invaded the warm sweetness of her mouth. She wrapped her arms around my neck and her legs around my hips. I carried her to her huge four-poster bed and laid her down.
Gasping for air, our lips pulled apart. I looked down on her beautiful face, delicate and strong at the same time. Her beauty wasn't striking. She was probably not the woman who would have a man's attention at first glance. Her beauty was one that grows on you the more you looked at her. It was one that got under your skin with every second then seeped through your very core until you couldn't take your eyes off her and no other woman's beauty could ever hold a candle to hers.
"Aidan..." She whispered as she gently stroked my cheek.
I smiled and called her name softly.
"Aidan!" Her voice sounded louder and further.
What the...
"Your Highness!" I woke up with a jolt, feeling heat on my skin from head to toe as I quickly stood at attention. Fucking single shot from a bottle of whiskey that Desmond brought last night got me to sleep and gave me that insane fantasy. I probably slept through the last hour of my shift. "I apologize, Your Highness. I... I must've fallen asleep on the chair. That would never happen again." I told her as I rubbed my eyes.
"You look tired." She said softly. "You're human like us too, Aidan. You can be tired. There's no need to apologize." She smiled. "What are you doing in my room?" She asked.
I forced my heavy eyes to open and focused them on her. A simple movement that caught me off guard because the moment I saw her sitting on her bed with her unkempt but still silky hair, her fresh face devoid of makeup and the early morning sun streaming through the windows and forming a halo around her, my wits staggered apart.
"I... Uh..." I sighed and shook my head. She looked lovelier than a dream and for a moment, I had to wrestle and beat down the longing of having her to wake up to everyday for the rest of our lives. "I have been reassigned to you."
"As my personal guard?" She asked.
"Yes, Your Highness."
"What happened to Gali?"
"He will still be guarding you during the day so I can get some rest when necessary. I will be your 24-hour close-in security detail from now on." I explained. "The King decided that after what happened with the dauphin, you should have me by your side all the time before your next prospective suitors are introduced. The incident has been spread within the royal circle through whispers and His Majesty thought it would be a good idea to intimidate the Princes before they get anymore ideas."
"Great! Now I'm the center of royal gossip." She scoffed. "But my father really assigned you to be my close-in security?"
"Yes, Your Highness. He and the Crown Prince did." I said.
"Even in my room at night, just the two of us?" She asked. I knew exactly where that question was coming from.
"Yes, Your Highness. They figured that if I defended your honor that passionately before, it meant that I knew how vital it is to preserve your virtue, Princess." I told her. I didn't have to tell her that I did what I did because I loved her.
Wait. What?
Yes. That's right.
I love Maiena. I am inlove with the Princess.
"Besides..." I smirked. "I'm not the one they should worry about." I grinned, hinting on our kiss in the rain. A pillow went directly flying to wipe the grin off my face.
"Shut up!" She laughed and threw another pillow. I caught it.
"Anyway... No one needs to worry about my stupid crush on you anymore." She added.
Ouch!
But, yeah. At the rate my feelings for her are growing, I should be the one I'm worried about. Stay strong, Aidan.
