"Mmm..." She moaned. "Oh my God!" She closed her eyes and licked her lips as she let out another satisfied groan.
I had to gulp back my own groan from just watching her. There had to be a way to stop this torture. There had to be a way to stop myself from my thoughts of having her make those sounds for me and not for a sweet treat. There had to be a way to distract myself from the ridiculous envy that I was feeling over a dessert for the way her eager mouth latched on and sucked the hell out of that ice cream.
Hell. Yes. I was certain I will go to hell if I let my thoughts go further.
"You... Uhm..." I cleared my suddenly dry throat to get her attention. She opened her eyes and stared at me as she took another lick. Big mistake. I should regret getting her that ice cream.
Really, Aidan? Hello? Who am I kidding? I should regret taking her out of the palace in the first place. Looking into those doe eyes, falling under their spell, putting my coat and a baseball cap on her as a lame disguise, slipping past the other guards, getting into that cab, pretending to be lovers as she snuggled onto my chest to hide her face from the curious driver's eyes while I sat there as stiff as a tree stump throwing dagger stares at the poor man and barking at him to focus on the road then finally taking her to this small desolate ice cream shop just outside of the capitol is the dumbest chain of decisions that I have ever done in my life. I will surely get into a shit ton of trouble if anything goes wrong, if it doesn't cause my life and honor.
"Y-you enjoying that ice cream?" I stuttered.
"Are you kidding? This is heaven!" She said. "I haven't had ice cream for so long! Stupid no-sugar, no-carb diet." She scoffed. "Anyway... I'd like ten more of these please." She giggled and continued to devour the cone in her hand.
Seeing her that happy somehow made the crazy risks I took in the past hour all worth it.
"Want some?" She offered as an afterthought then finally separated the dessert from her mouth and raised it up.
I chuckled as I saw some melted ice cream still stuck to the side of her lips. A child. I took a little ice cream addict child out for the day. With my coat that was too big for her wrapped around her and my cap hiding her tiny face, she looked too adorable to resist.
Maybe that was why I did what I did.
"No. Thank you. We barely have enough ice cream for you." I instinctively reached forward and wiped the ice cream from the side of her lips with my thumb then licked that finger clean right after.
I didn't realize what I did until I saw her blush profusely. We stared at each other in stunned silence for a few seconds then we both sheepishly looked away.
Outside, dark clouds started to fill the sky and the wind just got stronger.
Great! I let my guard down and break a few rules for one hour and already damnation was coming for me.
"I think we better head back, Your Highness."
"Maiena." She smiled, seemingly recovered from our awkward moment.
"Huh?" I was dumbfounded. That smile, those eyes, they were meant for me. Not Gali and certainly not that ice cream.
My heart did a little somersault and my spirit started to hum a happy tune in my head.
"You should call me Maiena. Not 'Your Highness'" She said, deepening and toughening her voice to sound like me. She didn't sound anything like me but it was cute.
"But..."
"No buts. You already agreed."
"When did that happen?" I frowned.
