My heart stopped when I saw her fall. I tried as hard as I can to reach her in time but I couldn't. Thankfully, Gali was right there. He caught her and immediately carried her inside the castle.

Sir Eduardo and some maids, Lady Cora and Lady Marian all rushed to her aid as I followed them like a bystander by the sidewalk, watching an incident unfold. I wanted to push them all away and take her into my arms instead but I couldn't move. I just stood there as Gali sat on a sofa in the foyer and held her on his lap while Lady Marian checked on the Princess.

"My goodness, child! What has happened?" She asked in a very worried voice as she carefully lifted the unconscious Princess's head and brushed her wet hair off her face.

"I'll call the physician." Sir Eduardo said.

"No need." Lady Marian told him. "Our dear Princess is just exhausted. The precious girl has not ran that much in her life. What was she thinking?"

It's my fault.

By the accusing stare my brother gave as he looked at me, he thought it too. He has never glared at me so contemptuously.

Maiena moaned softly and her eyes fluttered open. They focused on the first face she saw. "Gali." She whispered weakly.

Everyone sighed in relief.

"Yes, Your Highness. It's me. I've got you." He smiled softly as he held her hand to his lips and kissed it. "I'm right here."

Feeling safe in his arms, she closed her eyes and rested.

"Poor child. She just needs to get out of these wet clothes, soak in a warm bath and have a full day of rest." Lady Marian said.

Sir Eduardo turned to the maids. "You, run a warm bath for the Princess. You, prepare her bed and clothes. And you, tell the chef to have some hot soup ready."

"Yes, my lord." All three maids answered and scampered on to their chores.

Gali stood up and carried Maiena to the elevator. Lady Marian, Lady Cora and Sir Eduardo got in with them.

I watched the Princess's tired but still very beautiful face as the elevator doors closed.

An incredibly strong and excruciating force gripped my heart and squeezed it painfully inside my chest.

"You don't have to love me, Maiena. Hate me from now on but please be alright." I prayed.

A/N:

So another chapter? I feel my EQ is running low with these angsty chapters. I want to get to the good part sooner.

Ooops... Spoiler alert. 🤭

As I mentioned though, we're not even halfway through the story so there will be more twists and turns along the way.

How are you feeling about the story so far? Feel free to let me know in the comments section.

Here's this chapter's prompt.
