For people trying to be discreet, they sure whispered too loudly.
I woke up to the voices of three men in my room. I didn't panic because I recognized them right away. The King, the Crown Prince and the Royal Physician seemed to be having a little meeting around the tea table in my bedroom suite.
Did they really have to do that inside my room while I was trying to sleep? Let's call in the entire privy council, shall we?
There was no need for me to sleep more though, I think I've been out most of yesterday and again today but I still felt very drowsy because of the medicines I've been taking.
What could they be talking about that cost me my sleep?
I closed my eyes and tried to go back to ignore them but I still heard their conversation.
"Are you sure, Doctor?" It was my father.
"Yes, Your Majesty. Her fever has subsided and her blood tests didn't show anything that should concern us. She will still have colds and coughs for a few more days and will continue her medication for them but other than that, the Princess is perfectly fine." The doctor answered.
"That's good then. I will leave instructions for the Royal Aide to make arrangements on Maiena's schedule so she can rest for the rest of the week." My brother said.
Awww... How sweet. They really do care about me.
"How about the other tests, Doctor?" Papa asked.
What other tests?
"Well..." The doctor cleared his throat and his voice sounded significantly more uncomfortable when he continued. "Dr. Rosa personally did the ultrasound using the portable machine that she brought yesterday and she assured me that the Princess is perfectly capable of bearing children."
They did what?!
"Excellent!" I heard my father chuckle. "That's great news."
Unbelievable! To secretly have a doctor check on me without my knowledge is just preposterous!
Of course my ability to produce heirs for the throne is more important than my personal choices over my own body. How can I have hoped otherwise?
Did anyone bother to ask me about this? Nah! No need. I am nothing but the state's property anyway. I have no choice nor say in the matter.
After a few minutes of their conversation that I couldn't hear anymore because my spirit was too loudly screaming in pain, they left and I was finally free to cry my heart out.
After a while, my chest hurt from sobbing and my eyes urticated from the tears that I cried. I closed my eyes and I saw it-- an image from my memory. I was expecting it to make me more miserable but instead it comforted me so I let it stay there as I fell asleep to the memory of Aidan's smile and laughter.
I must still be dreaming because after some time, I woke up to the feeling of someone watching me. With my eyes still closed, I could see his dimpled grin as Aidan went down on one knee with a ring.
A ring? Impossible. I was definitely dreaming.
But I felt him touch my face, and I doubted myself.
It couldn't be just a dream.
His hand moved from my face to my neck. Then it ventured lower and I knew it wasn't Aidan.
I was alarmed and immediately opened my eyes.
"Dauphin?!" I scurried away from him and tried to scream but he was too fast.
Before I knew it, I was pinned under him, he was so heavy and I couldn't breathe with his hand over my mouth.
"Help!!!" was my muffled scream, desperately praying for someone to save me from this nightmare.
