I woke up to the sound of two women having a hushed argument beside me.
"What problem? There is no problem, Lady Marian." I heard Cora tell my governess.
"It's almost noon. The Princess hasn't woken up and her skin feels warm. She must be ill." Lady Marian in her soft but obviously agitated voice spoke.
"I'm sure she's okay, Lady Marian. She just needs more sleep and her temperature is fine. I just checked with a thermometer." Cora explained.
"More sleep? She went to bed early last night and she still needs more sleep? Something must be wrong. We must call for the royal physician immediately!"
The royal physician? What do I need the royal physician for? My drowsiness due to my lack of sleep last night? My lethargic feeling as the events of my reunion with Aidan has drained me of all my physical energy? The pain in my lower body as an effect of offering my maidenhead to the man I love?
No!
Mustering up all the strength and courage left in my body, I pushed all the pain and discomfort I was feeling to the very back of my head and tried to sit up with great effort. I chewed on my lip to try and stifle a whimper of pain. I managed to sit up but a soft moan still escaped my lips.
"Your Highness!" The two women exclaimed and rushed to my side.
I yawned, lazily rubbed my eyes and mumbled. "Must your voices be this loud in the morning?" I asked as I looked at them sharply.
They exchanged guilty looks, each one blaming the other before turning to me again.
"Are you alright, Your Highness?" Lady Marian asked with a little frown, anxiety evident in her eyes.
Oh my sweet Lady Marian! She must ve worried sick. Like she always was when I get sick since I was young.
I smiled softly at her and sighed. "Just a little headache." I lied because in truth, my entire body ached specially everything below my waist. "I just need some lavender and chamomile tea." I added.
"Perfect timing!" Lady Cora smiled. "We have that right here. Let me pour you a cup." She said and walked to the tea table. She poured me a cup and returned shortly with the tea. I took it from her and sipped twice before giving her back the cup.
"Oh, my poor child." Lady Marian sighed as she sat on my bed and laid a gentle hand on my cheek. "Would you like me to brush your hair?" She smiled sweetly.
It was something that she did to comfort me since I was a little girl. She would brush my hair and we would talk until I fell asleep. Eversince my mother passed away, Lady Marian has gone beyond what was required of her job to be as close to a mother that I could have.
I eagerly nodded my hair and grinned. "Yes, please." I laid on my side and Cora handed Lady Marian my brush then quietly sat on a chair.
Very carefully, my governess started brushing my hair and I sighed.
After a few brush strokes, I asked, "Lady Marian, have you ever been inlove?"
Her hand suddenly stopped and I could imagine her shock at my question. Then she started brushing my hair again and asked in return, "Why do you ask? You've never asked these kinds of questions before."
I shrugged. "Let's say I'm just curious and want to ask you random questions today," I said then added, "I know you're not married and you've never heard of you having a boyfriend. Why?"
She chuckled. "Those are silly things, my Princess."
"So have you been inlove?" I asked again.
"Maybe. I wouldn't know. I never gave it time."
