As I tied the apron to my back, I immediately helped Yaxuan with carrying the boxes while Xiaoma Ge took care of the papers and ribbons.
"This flower shop is cute." Yaxuan commented.
I nodded, "Yeah, this place is quite charming."
"I think we're out of pink and yellow ribbons." Xiaoma Ge said, rummaging through the box where stocks of ribbons are stored. "Xiaoding, can you accompany me to the craft store nearby?"
" Sure thing. Let's not take long."
"What about us?" I asked.
"Well let's just get back to work." Yaxuan said and sat back down on the chair. Seriously, is this what you call work, Xiaosong?
A few minutes have passed and another customer came in. It was a girl that looks like she's around my age but she's shorter than us and she's with her mother.
"Oh, it's just you!" Yaxuan then stood up from the stool and walked up to the girl. She was only around Yaxuan's shoulder level.
"Yaxuan? What are you doing here?" The girl asked.
"Hi, Auntie!" Yaxuan greeted. "We came to help one of our friend handle the store while his father's not available."
"He knows them?" Junlin whispered beside me as we watched the scene in front of us.
"Probably." I shrugged.
"I see." The girl just said.
"So, what is it that we can do for you?" Yaxuan asked and pulled us along with him.
"We'd like a bouquet of white and yellow flowers." She said.
"What for?" Xiaosong asked as we made way for the two to get in.
"Oh, it's her nephew's 2nd birthday today." Her mom answered and looked at the section of flowers. "She decided to celebrate it just a little by giving him a bouquet of flowers and some cake."
"Ohh, but why would you like to give him flowers?" Junlin asked.
"I'm telling you, you should take that back now." Yaxuan whispered.
"But why?" I asked.
"Because her nephew is dead, and this is his second death anniversary." Xiaosong whispered back.
"I'm deeply sorry, miss. Please do not answer my question." Junlin apologized.
"It's alright. My nephew's in heaven by now."
"Boys, I will be back. I'll just order a cake on the other side of the mall on the 3rd floor." Her mom said. "Yaxuan, I'm leaving her here for a while."
"Leave her to me, Auntie!" Yaxuan saluted and gave the girl a stool to sit on, she was by the counter. "It's like we're babysitting you!"
They bickered and bickered about their heights and I just chuckled about their conversation while Junlin's busy wrapping the flowers up.
"Here you go." Yaxuan said and gave the bouquet to her with care.
"Thank you."
After a short while, her mom came with a box of cake. "Come on, let's get going. Your gege is waiting for us at home." Her mom said. "Thank you for looking out for her, Yaxuan. You, too, boys. Thank you."
We bid goodbye to them and I just looked at her figure walking away with the bouquet in her arms. I didn't even notice Xiaoma Ge and Chengxin Gege were finally back.
"Eh, whose wallet is this?" I heard Chengxin Gege ask.
"This is hers!" Xuan'er exclaimed as he bent down to get it. "Yaowen, can you give this back to her tomorrow?"
"Me? Why me?"
"She's your schoolmate."
"She is?"
"Yes, she's my classmate. I'll be absent tomorrow so please give it to her tomorrow."
"Oh, so is that why the two of you look close?" Junlin asked.
"Yes, she's one of the quietest persons I ever met." Yaxuan answered and went back to work.
I went home and went straight to my room. As I examined the wallet, I got curious so I opened it and saw a picture of her smiling. She looks kinda cute while smiling.
I don't know why, but I'd like to talk to her once more. There's something about her that makes me want to befriend her.
After that day, we became friends and day after day, I didn't realize that...
I was falling for her.
