"How do you do that?" He asked. He always asks me this question.
"Chengxin, aren't you getting tired of questioning me the same question again and again?" I asked.
"No. Are you tired of answering my question?"
"It's not like that. I mean, you're already an idol. You could've let someone teach you how to do stuff."
"Hey," he started, "do you remember when we were in sixth grade?"
I nodded my head.
He chuckled. "Do you remember that one time you got mad at me for asking you that question for the millionth time of the day?"
"Yeah, I remember that." I chuckled.
"Do you remember my reason?" He asked in a serious tone.
I looked at him and shook my head.
"It's because I look up to you. Even if you're not famous, I'm your fan."
"But I'm not worthy of being one."
"You could be an idol, you know? You can sing, dance... everything an idol can do!"
I smiled a little, knowing he would do anything to make me happy.
"Thanks to you, I know a lot of things! I even learnt how to confess." He said and leaned his head on the wall.
"I didn't teach you how to confess, Chengcheng." I said.
"But you gave me the courage to." He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before opening his eyes again. "I like you, not as a fan. That's why I started asking you that question, to get noticed by you, but I didn't expect that we would be close friends. I thought that you'd go away from me, but no. You taught me with patience."
His confession made my jaw drop.
"It's okay if you don't like me back, but I hope our friendship doesn't change a thing." He stood up and took his bag, ready to leave.
"I like you too." I said and left the room.
He went out to and caught up with me. "Is this really true?!" He asked.
"Woah, now that's a new question!" I teased him and nodded my head.
"No way!" He gasped. "You like me too?"
"Wow, Xiaoding! Your question is evolving real fast." I chuckled. "Yes, I do like you."
"Are we a thing now?"
"We can be a thing? No, I'm a human." I sarcastically remarked.
"No, I mean like, you know... this?" He asked and made a heart gesture.
I shook my head and he dropped his heart.
"Why?" He whined.
"I just said I like you. I didn't say I am your girlfriend." I said and chuckled.
"Then will you be my girlfriend?!" He asked and knelt down, in the middle of the hallway!
I shook my head and he stood up again.
"Why?" He asked again.
"Work your way first. I'm not gonna answer that question immediately." I said and walked away. He didn't catch up with me this time.
"Would you go out with me?" He shouted.
I nodded my head and shouted, "Message me about it!"
•••
Months passed by and he constantly courted me.He really showed that his feelings for me are true and his intentions are clear and genuine. I didn't even teach him all this stuff.
He was walking me home after school when he suddenly blurted out, "How do you do that?"
"Do what, Chengxin?"
"Be so pretty, even when you're doing nothing."
I blushed and hit his arm lightly. "That caught me off guard!"
He chuckled. "But it's a genuine question! Every time I look at you, you get prettier and prettier. I really like looking at you and admire everything you do, even if it's just existing."
I chuckled as I watch his eyes sparkle and his smile grow big just from telling me how much he adores me.
"Chengxin." I called.
He hummed in response, in a tone that indicates he's waiting for me to continue.
"Wanna get something to drink and stay at the playground for the meantime?"
"Sure!" He smiled.
We went to the playground after buying fruit soda from the convenience store. I was sitting on a swing and he was standing beside me. He was leaning on the pole as he watched me lightly rock myself back and forth on the swing.
I looked at him. "Hey, how would you ask me out? I'm curious."
He stayed silent for a moment to think. I heard him hum as he tried to come up with an answer to my sudden question. He put down his fruit soda on the ground. "Maybe like this."
He walked to my front and stood there. I looked up at him and tilted my head in confusion. He slowly started kneeling down and I widened my eyes at what he did.
Chengxin slowly cupped my hands and looked at me with his puppy eyes. "Can I be your boyfriend?"
I blushed and slowly nodded. I saw a smile creep on his face as he stood up to hug me. At first I was just making him ask me to be his girlfriend so I can finally say yes. I didn't know he's word it out in such a gentlemanly way.
