Jigyu

They meet on the overhead bridge like they always do. This time, it was four am, the sky inky black but the street lights glowing amber. Many would feel annoyed like hell to have to meet their friend at the wee hours in the morning, but Mingyu would do a lot for his friend. Mingyu leans against the railing and glances at Jihoon.

The two are silent for a few minutes, though the silence is comfortable. They can only hear the soft cooing of sleeping birds and the gentle sounds of cars filling the lonely road.

"You good?" Mingyu decides to ask.

Jihoon made a small noise of agreement.

"You sure?"

"Yep."

Jihoon sounded really dull.

Jihoon bends to pick a rock from the ground and begins to throw it up and down, catching it. It hits his hand with a thwack every time.

"You're hurting the rock."

Jihoon scoffs.

"Still seeing the doctors?'

"Mhm."

"Have you been taking your pills?"

Jihoon was in mid throw and his hand freezes.

The stone clatters to the ground.

Forgotten.

Jihoon wavers, his eyes fixed on the cars below, before saying, "Yup."

Mingyu caught the hesitation. Mingyu sees everything.

"Hey," His eyebrows furrow, "Have you?"
Jihoon sighs and glares at the other.

"Look, I've had a lot on my mind, and the pills make me lethargic, and they're not even working! Give me a break." He grumbled, snatching up the rock again.

Concerned, Mingyu pries the rock from Jihoon's hand and forces him to look up at him.

"You gotta take those pills. They can help you!"

Jihoon pulls his hand away.

"I'm fine."

Mingyu feels a pulse of anger.

"No, you're not. You told me before! If you say you're okay you're really okay but if you say you're fine, you're not."

Jihoon looks Mingyu in the eye, and Mingyu sees the pain and frustration hidden in the shorter's eyes.

"It's gonna be okay. That's what I tell myself every day."

Jihoon pats Mingyu goodbye and makes his way down the bridge.

Mingyu stares down at the cars. They move slowly and leisurely. How lucky of them. No worries at all, those cars. Carefree. Free. He wishes they could all be like that. He wishes they could be happy, that Jihoon could be happy. But the world is not a wish-granting factory.
