Boochan
"Over hundreds of people have died from this virus outbreak in merely three days, which people believe has been transferred from bats. The government is-"
Seungkwan turned off the television. He pursed his lips in concern, turning to look at the wall clock. It's past midnight. Chan should be home soon. The downsides of dating a nurse, he supposed, is that they would work long and odd hours. Seungkwan let out a tired sigh, and began to clean up the dining table so at least Chan would have somewhere to eat his...dinner? Supper? Very early breakfast? The last one was probably wrong. The door lock when gave a merry click and an exhausted Chan stumbled through the door, very much like how a drunk person would. The younger regarded Seungkwan sleepily, before giving a little smile then setting his things down on the dining table. A hot meal was laid out for Chan, who gratefully ate it. Seungkwan watched the younger, and carefully set the finished dishes into the sink.
"How was it tonight?"
Chan shrugged. "You know the virus outbreak? Yeah, well, they're asking for volunteers. To go, like, straight to the infected people, to, you know, take care of them." He mumbled out half-awake. Seungkwan felt his blood run cold. Keeping himself composed, he asked, "Well, did you volunteer?" He was hoping he would be able to hide his uneasiness, but obviously even half asleep Chan could pick it up. "I...I told them I'll think about it. But, I-"
"-want to do it?" Seungkwan finished off, head in his hands.
The room was dead quiet.
"Do you have to?"
Chan looked Seungkwan dead in the eye, with as much seriousness he could muster.
"Yes, Seungkwan," He spoke softly but firmly. "Yes, I have to. If...if I don't..." He met Seungkwan's eyes, "Who will?"
Seungkwan tried to laugh. "Our little Chan, always doing his best to help others."
They sat together, shoulders slumped and Chan's eyes trailing Seungkwan's fingers moving in circles on the table, a nervous habit.
The silence was shattered when Seungkwan let out a strangled sob.
"Please...please don't do this..." Seungkwan begged, pleaded, holding back unshed tears. "Please don't do this to me." Chan made his way carefully to Seungkwan, grasping his hand tightly. "Don't do this." Seungkwan raised Chan's hand to his cheek, his tears tracing a path down their fingers. "Boo..." Chan let out that sweet nickname, his favourite term of endearment to Seungkwan, "I must. This was what I was made for. I am meant to help people." Furiously shaking his head, the older stuttered out through his tears, "Let others do it." Seungkwan knew that was selfish. Selfish to want to protect Chan, when Chan could help. Selfish to send others to their deaths while Chan sat back and watched. He knew part of Chan wanted to do that sit back and let others get their hands dirty, get themselves hurt, then go to bed and sleep. But Chan would never be able to rest. Seungkwan wanted to duct tape Chan to his bed and feed him and take care of him, and only let him out once the virus was erased from the planet, but he knew that was so, so selfish. He just wanted...needed...
Chan inhaled and exhaled deeply, shakily, "Seungkwan, I can do this. Let me do this. It would be my honour to serve my country." Seungkwan cried and wailed, and eventually, somehow, Chan had brought him back to their bed and he fell asleep.Seungkwan woke up to an empty, tear-stained bed.
Four months later, the virus had been significantly reduced around the world, and the world was declared safe. Schools were reopened, people could go to work, meet up with friends, play, eat, have fun...
There were hundreds, thousands of medical staff that had passed away due to becoming infected with the virus. One of the nurses was Lee Chan.
Edit: AN: This is inspired by the Wuhan virus that is spreading around, also known as coronavirus. It's really bad and people are dying, so please stay safe everyone.
