———

This probably wasn't a good idea, and she knows it, that's why she kept quiet, it was literally 9 in the evening and all she told Harry was that she's going out for some coffee, which wasn't entirely a lie, but it wasn't fully the truth either.

She was about to see the man that once destroyed her, she doesn't even know why she's coming to talk to him. He hurt her, so bad that whatever he told her still hurts her up to this day. She knows Harry would be livid once he figures out she went out to see Elijah, especially at this time.

But she can't stand Elijah up, especially at this time. It was late and she knows that Elijah was indeed going to wait for her, she doesn't know why the sudden desire to talk to her sparked up in her ex. But there was something desperate with his words, or maybe once again, Serena's being foolish.

The bells rang and she sees Elijah sat on one table near the left-most corner, she heaved a deep sigh before walking to his booth. Her hands were slightly trembling as she stood in front of him, taking him by surprise. It looks like Elijah didn't really expect her to come, she didn't either.

"Serena... you came." He says, more to himself as if to make himself believe that she was real. "Yeah, I did. Now, what are you going to say?"

Elijah clears his throat awkwardly as he pushed the cup of coffee to Serena who just shook her head. "I didn't come here for this, just tell me what's going on." He looked disappointed with her words but just remained quiet.

It was silent and tense, you can literally cut the tension with a knife. None of them knew what to say or where to start, Serena was feeling an urge to vomit out words but bit her tongue back.

"I'm sorry." He croaks out, looking down on his hands thay played with the napkins on the table. "What?" She asks in confusion, completely unaware on where this conversation was going.

This time, Elijah's eyes stared directly at hers. His dark orbs glossy with what appears to be tears. "I'm so sorry for what I've done." Serena immediately felt bad, why is she feeling bad over the person that hurt her? "You could've just told me that on the phone, Elijah."

"I can't, I want to say it to you right here to show you I mean it. I really am sorry for all the hell I put you through, I was an asshole." Serena breathes out a sarcastic chuckle. "I think you were more than just an asshole." She was assuming Elijah would take offense but Elijah just laughed along, it was a weak laugh though.

He continued. "I'm sorry, Serena. I know my sorry won't change anything, but I just want to let you know that. I don't think I could live another day without telling you how sorry I am." His voice was sincere, he sounded too genuine and raw, it made Serena scared about how believable it sounded.

She wanted to hate him, but basing from what she sees, her heart can't seem to not forgive the male in front of him.

There was it again, the silence.

"I forgive you." She mutters out softly, making Elijah's eyes widen. "Wait, really?" She nods.

"That would be unfair of me to not forgive you, besides, it's been years. I think it's best if the two of us could move on." She says, a small smile cracking on her lips, Elijah breathed out a sigh of relief. "Thank you so much."

She just smiles. "No need to thank me. I know how hard it must be to bring yourself here, we were both hurt by the situation. I don't think my forgiveness is what you need, it's your own." Elijah looked so surprised.

"You're still the same poetic, overly-kind girl I met ages ago." He shakes his head and laughs slightly. "Thank you, so much."

She nods, acknowledging his thank you before standing up. "Now, I have to go. Harry's waiting for me at home." Elijah smiles. "Congratulations, by the way. You and Harry."

"Thank you, Elijah." She waved her hand and dashed off to her car, her chest felt like it was finally away from everything that restricted it for years, like a thorn was taken from her side, it felt nice.

Now, all she has to do is go home to the man she loves.
