Serena felt so heavy, she felt like this was the storm that was waiting to arrive after everything. She should've known better, the recent months have been suspiciously good to her, there was no way something bad wasn't waiting for her.
It was years ago, when she met and fell in love with a charming man named Elijah Bennett. They were young, and Serena thought the whole world only revolved around them. He was everything that mattered to her, everything she does— she always considers him. He was a part of her, to put it simply.
So when he constantly told her she wasn't good enough, she believed him. When he bombarded her mind with words like 'you're not pretty, I don't think you'll look good in my catalogue' or 'I don't think you're good enough for that role', she had every reason to believe him.
Her voice was silenced when he didn't listen. She couldn't say anything but yes to the man who cheated on her, hurt her and ruined her. That went on for years, she couldn't even recognize herself anymore.
She looked in the mirror and asked herself who has she become, and that was what pushed her to let go.
While she left him behind, the scars stayed. Sometimes, they can't be seen and sometimes, they can't be hidden. Elijah played a huge part as to why she is the way that she is now, always questioning herself, full of doubts and have very little faith on what she could offer. It didn't even feel wrong anymore, for Serena, it was already engraved deep into her system, that she was not as important as she thought she was.
But that's fine, she tells herself, she could live by that.
She thought he was forever going to remain in her past, seeing him made it feel like the scars reopened— and it hurt more, to know that she let him do that to her.
Her tears poured out streams of tears that never stopped flowing, she actually felt like her lungs were being crushed as she tried to make little to no noises as she sobbed into her hands.
She almost jolted upward as she heard knocks coming from outside her door, she quickly wiped her tears away and dashed to the late-night visitor.
Harry was right outside her apartment, eyes filled with worry and concern as his eyes met her glistening ones.
He didn't even say anything, all he did was wrap his arms around her and kiss her head softly.
