Chapter 4: Hunting

Rosa's PoV

I'm out hunting before I continue on my way to Strongfair. It's a Human town and they have a lot of goods they trade there. I want to trade some of my belongings and get some information about the war. The war is going to start soon and I want to be ready for it. All of a sudden I run into another Elf. I say “I'm so sorry. I didn't see you.”

She says “That's ok. I was watching where I was going. Are you hunting?”

“Yep. Are you?”

“I just did.”

She climbs up into a tree and climbs down while holding two birds.

She asks me “Do you want to come eat with me and my friends?”

“Sure.”

“I'm Nightbreeze.”

“Rosa.”

We start talking while we walk back to her friends. I learn she just got out of slavery. I say “I don't like slavery but my people have it. Almost every single Silvanesti has a slave. The Qualinesti don't have as many as Silvanesti do. I'm happy you got out of it.”

“Thanks. It was hard but It's way easier getting out than doing it.” We finally get to her camp and we all introduce each other.

“I'm Quintrine.”

“Nava.”

“Rosa.”

“Nightbreeze.”

We sit down and start cooking the birds. Nava says “You were gone for a while.”

“I was hunting and then I met Rosa.”

“Where are we going after breakfast?”

“We are going to find my clan. Or at least try to.”

I ask, “What are you doing?”

Nava says “We are going to help with something that happens in the future. Do you want to join us?”

“Is it the upcoming war?”

“It might be.”

“I have to go to Strongfair first then I can join you.”

“What do you need in Strongfair?”

“I'm trading a few things and than getting information on the Highlord army.”

“After we find Nightbreeze’s clan we can go to Strongfair.”

“Sounds good.”

Quintrine says “We are all Elves. And Half-Elf. This is a great group!”

Nava asks “Where did Nightbreeze go?”

Quintrine says “She took my bow. Again.”

I say “I'm not sure.” We all get up and start looking around. We grab our bows and our swords. Nightbreeze comes back and she's covered in blood. Nava says “Don't tell me that's your blood.”

She smiles and says “Nope. It's Orges blood. You all were too distracted talking to notice that Orges were sneaking up on us. And they were really loud.”

Nava says “I'm a Half-Elf. I don't have as good hearing as you do.”

Quintrine says “I thought I heard something. But I didn't want to interrupt our conversation.”

I tell them “I didn't hear anything.”

Nightbreeze says “How did I notice the threat when I haven't been out in the woods for twenty years? Oh and sorry about your bow. I used it with the arrows than I used it as a makeshift sword.”

“That bow took forever to make! Now what am I supposed to do?” 

“I can make you a new one.”

“With what? You don't have any supplies.”

Nightbreeze and Quintrine argue back and forth for a few minutes when suddenly they stop. We all listen and we hear a bird call. Nightbreeze repeats the bird call and tells us “My clan is coming. My clan is a really big clan.” After she says that a big group of Kagonesti Elves come. One of them says something that I can't understand. They must be speaking Kagonesti. Nightbreeze responds than hugs one of them. Then after they hug she says “This is my father Silverbow. He can help give us any supplies we need.” 

I ask “Can you guys speak common so we can understand?”

“My father doesn't know common. We travel around but we normally avoid other races. The only reason I know common is because I was taught common. There are a few others in our clan that know common but it's not that great.”

Nava says “So we are already where we were supposed to be?”

“Yep. My clan found us. That's what the bird call was.”

Quintrine asks “Can I get another bow now?”

Nightbreeze says “Yes you can. Follow me.”

We all follow Nightbreeze and her clan and go to a big open area. There's water and a lot of supplies here. Another Elf comes over and hugs Nightbreeze. They talk in Kagonesti and we just watch them. Quintrine goes to get another bow and Nava comes over to me. She says “I kind of know what they are saying. I learned a little of it from some of my friends.”

“What are they saying?”

“Catching up some from when Nightbreeze was gone.”

Nightbreeze tells us “I'm going to change real quick. Feel free to take anything from the supplies there and get some water. My mom can help you.”

Nightbreeze leaves and her mom walks over to us. She says “I'm Eveningfall. Is there anything you need?”

Nava says “What do you have?”

“Plenty of supplies. Come.”

We follow Nightbreeze’s mom and go over to the supplies. We take some and put it in our bags. Nightbreeze comes back and gives Nava her clothes back. She's wearing a short sleeve green shirt and shorts, green shoes, and bodypaint. Now she looks like she's part of her clan. Her hair has braids in it like everyone else. And she has her own supplies. She says “My clan is willing to feed us lunch before we leave. After this we are going to Strongfair?”

We all agree and then we eat lunch with her clan. When we finally get Quintrine to come with us we head out. Nightbreeze’s clan waves to us as we leave until we can't see them anymore. I lead the group and we head to Strongfair.
