Chapter 43: The Meeting

Rosa's PoV

It takes some time to get everyone to quiet down. Surprisingly they all stopped when Thintop walked right into the middle of the room. Everyone is always careful around Kender because they tend to steal people's things and innocently say they didn't know how it got there. Or they were borrowing it. Thintop says “I'm sure she has a good reason." He looks over to her and asks, "You do right?”

Nightbreeze tells everyone “I was undercover. That's how I learned valuable information about their plans. I killed him when he was about to marry me. If you don't believe me I have the wedding ring to prove it.”

She takes the chain from her neck off and shows them the ring on it. She continues to tell them “I also knew another Highlord leader from my childhood that I had to kill too.”

Everyone starts talking all at once again. We can hear them shouting and saying she should be arrested. Others can't believe what they heard. Some of them believe her and they want to know more. The Speaker quiets everyone down and tells them “Let us hear what she has to say before we do something we would regret. Please continue, tell us how and why.”

“I was undercover with the leader Elaethen. He was a Half-Elf. He turned to evil because no one accepted him. Because he wasn't perfect. Thallan was part of my clan until I was captured and forced into slavery. His family wanted to save me but my clan said no and kicked them out. He told me that his parents were killed right in front of him and he could either join the Highlord army or die. He chose to live. It wasn't his fault. But he was too far gone to bring him back to the good side. If you want to judge me then go ahead and judge me. I don't care either way but I have information you all want to know.”

The Head Knight says “The Knights Circle should hear what she says.”

The Silvanesti leader says “The Silvanesti Council should hear what she says! She's coming with us!”

“No! She's coming with us!”

The Knights and Silvanesti start arguing about where I should go. The Speaker shakes his head then walks over to me and my friends. He says “I'm afraid we will be arguing about this for hours. I'm not sure what to do.”

Nava says “Take control like you're supposed to. You're the Speaker. They have to listen to you.”

He sighs then says “There's much for you all to learn about Qualinesti. It's not that simple anymore. People don't just want me to take control all the time. They like having the other leaders help me. I can't fix that no matter how hard I try to gain everyone's trust.”

Nightbreeze gets up and heads for the door. The Speaker asks us “What is she doing?”

Nava says “Getting everyone's attention.”

I see the Speaker smile to himself for a moment before he changes back to looking serious. Nightbreeze is almost at the door when everyone stops arguing and asks “Where are you going?”

Nightbreeze turns around and stops walking. She tells everyone “If you guys can't make up your mind then I'm leaving. I don't have time for all this arguing.”

The Speaker says “She's right. We don't have time for arguing. The war has already started. The more time we spend arguing, it increases of number of people dying. I don't care who should hear it and who shouldn't. You can hear it now then share it with your leaders. Something not as important is we have kids whose parents were killed. We have helped the Qualinesti kids. We need you to help the Silvanesti, Humans, and Kagonesti kids find their families or a new home.”

Nightbreeze walks back over to us after they all decide to listen. She tells all of us every single little detail she learned about the Highlord army from Eleathen. Then she asks after she's done “Can I have some paper? I can draw what there plan looks like from their maps I saw.”

Some of the Qualinesti servants quickly rush to get paper. They put big pieces of paper on the ground and she starts drawing. When she's finally done we can see exactly how their defensive and offensive plans are. It gives us a great advantage over them. Everyone starts talking about the plans.

We keep discussing the plans for the next couple days. The last day before the Silvanesti and Knights are going to leave with all the kids a message comes. The messenger rushes it and hands it to the Speaker before falling unconscious from exhaustion of rushing here. The Qualinesti servants quickly rush to bring the messenger to another room and help him. The Speaker seems worried after he finishes reading it.
