Nava's PoV
We are all waiting for Nightbreeze and the Speaker to come back. When the Speaker comes in and Nightbreeze doesn't I know something is wrong. I ask him, “Where's Nightbreeze?”
He tells everyone, “Leave the room. Except for Nava, Rosa, and Quintrine.”
They all obey and leave the study. Thintop gets dragged along while complaining “What about me? Why can't I stay?”
When the doors close the Speaker tells us “She left with the Highlord army.”
Rosa tells him “How could she have done that again? She's already been tortured by them multiple times.”
“It was the only way to get the army to leave Qualinesti. She knows what she's doing. She wrote you all a letter. Just for the three of you.”
Quintrine asks “When is she coming back?”
“She told me she doesn't know if she will come back.”
“That's not fair!”
I tell them, “She can take care of herself. She was having to go through slavery for over twenty years. She had to pretend to be a servant instead of a slave. She's been undercover in the Highlord army before. Most of her life was already gone. I know that she will take care of herself.”
“I will leave you three alone so you can read her letter.”
The Speaker walks out and closes the doors behind him. I open her letter and I see it's written in Silvanesti. She didn't want anyone else other than us to read it. And the Silvanesti already left. Quintrine tells us “It's not fair. I can't read it. It's in Silvanesti.”
Rosa tells her “We can read it to you.”
I start reading the letter out loud “Dear Nava, Rosa, and Quintrine. If you are reading this then you already know that I left with the Highlord army. I always knew someday I would leave with them after what happened with Elaethen. I don't want you all coming after me. I know what I'm getting myself into. I don't want you all to get killed. Stay with the mission and go convince the Knights Council that we need there help. It will be even harder without me there but I know you can do it. Nava, you've been a great friend to me. And a mom. I know we don't always get along but I care about you. You always listened to anything I needed to tell you. Rosa, you've been a great friend too. You're quiet and I know that whatever you have to say is always helpful. Quintrine, you're a great storyteller. It seems like we aren't always listening to your stories but I do. Maybe after the war you could become a storyteller. I hope you can find your parents and be happy. It's hard not knowing what happened to them but I hope you can get through it even if they aren't alive anymore. I hope that if I ever come back that you will all continue to be my friends. I understand if you don't though. I'm going to have to do some things I will definitely regret if I want to keep my cover and keep all of you save. Don't come after me. I know what I got myself into. Stay safe. I will miss all of you.”
I finish reading it and we are all silent for a moment. I hate how she always gets into trouble. I want to go after her but I can't. She told me not to and we have to get the kids to safety then convince the Knights Circle to help the smaller towns that are farther away. Without their help, then we lose the war. It's going to be so much harder without Nightbreeze but I can figure something out. Quintrine tells us “We should go after her. Just not right now. We can't let her give the rest of her life to the Highlord army! It's not fair!”
Rosa explains “She wrote to not come after her. We can't go after her for any reason. It could get us all killed. I care about her as much as you do but she told us to stay away. We should do what she says. Hopefully she won't get killed and after the war is over then we can try and save her. I just hope she won't end up like Elaethen or Thallan.”
